Nick Barnett, 2011 IDP Fantasy Football Sleeper, Linebacker Buffalo Bills

The average NFL game has 125 plays (an average of 63 offensive plays and 62 defensive plays). However, over the last 2 years, the Buffalo Bills defense was on the field an average of 72 plays per game. 10 more plays per game than most other teams. No defensive unit in the NFL has been on the field for more plays over the last 2 years than the Bills. It's no wonder Buffalo has produced 2 top 15 IDP players from different positions for 2 years in a row and corner J. Byrd is a very close 3rd finishing just above breakout IDP producer Brent Grimes of Atlanta to become a borderline IDP stud in the ranks of fellow team members Paul Posluszny & Donte Whitner.

But, things change (especially this year) and Buffalo says goodbye to Poz and hello to Nick Barnett, who had an immediate impact in the IDP world when he entered the NFL in 2003. By no coincidence, the movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines hit theaters at that same time. And, a machine he was, averaging 90 solos in his first three years, but then had an off-season in 2006 with only 61 solos. He rebounded in 2007 becoming a top 10 LB, posting a solid 102 solos and once again producing at a strong level. And, after an injury plagued 2008, he rebounded once again in 2009 with an 82 tackle/ 4 sack season.

For where you are able to get this guy at the bottom of your drafts, considering he is only 2 years removed from his top 3 IDP status where many had him ranked just below Patrick Willis & Ray Lewis, he's a steal and really, really worth the roster spot.

Very nice article. I see that IDP guru is high on him as well. Would you take him above Daryl Washington in a tackle heavy IDP-league.

Hey Monk,

I have two part question..

Part 1: Who do you think will replace Bernard Pollard's productive in Houston.. is it Daniel Manning or Glover Quin?

Part 2: Who would you rather have on your team...

Daniel Manning.. Glover Quin or Richard Marshall.

Thanks for your help.

Definitely like Nick Barnett over Daryl Washington. Washington is slated for weak side linebacker and will share tackles with Paris Lenon & Stewart Bradley where Barnett is going to be the main tackler in a very lucrative Bills defense. However, Washington will probably be drafted as high or higher than Nick Barnett in drafts so Barnett is a sleeper and a great option this year based on where you can get him in your draft.

I'm hearing that Richard Marshall is no guarantee to beat out Greg Toler so far in camp.

Glover Quin will step into Pollard's old spot so he'd be the one to get and you should be able to get him at a HUGE value in any draft.

Hey Monk is there a chance for some help? Could you help me with who to keep this year. Pick the four best options I am only able to keep a total of four players no more than 2 at any position.(LB)Poz,Bishop,Rudd,Derek Johnson,(DB)Weddle,Whitner,Chung(DL)MarioWilliams,Shaugnessey,Rubin. The scoring is basic scoring sacks, tackles, assist tackles,PD,INT,etc. My one free keeper who was a rookie that doesnt affect my keepers was TJ WARD. lucky me right!!
