IDP Fantasy Football Rankings

Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups - NFL Fantasy Football

Immediate Pickups

Defensive Linemen

Jabaal Sheard (DE, Cle) – Sheard has the talent to put up Julius Peppers like stats and he proved that week 2. He started week 1 with 3 tackles and week 2 he got a sack, 5 tackles and fumble recovery. If you can get him, he’ll compete at a DL1 level.

Phillip Taylor (DT, Cle) – In defensive tackle required leagues, this is the guy you want to target off the wire. For the second week in a row, he put of 5 solos as a DT. You can get a huge advantage over fellow league-mates to have a DT on your team who can do this on a consistent basis.

Kyle Vanden Bosch (DE, Det) – Although he may not be a waiver wire guy in your league, perhaps he got lost in the mix of all that talent on the Detroit defensive line during your draft day. Now we are seeing that he is the main beneficiary with sacks and solid tackle numbers 2 weeks in a row. If you can get him in your league, he’s performing as a DL1.

Dave Ball (DE, Ten) – He put up 5 solos week 1 and 4 solos and a sack week 2. Those are numbers you’d be happy about from your linebacker and this is a defensive end that you should be able to sneak off the waiver wire.

Derrick Morgan (DE, Ten) – This was his first game back from injury and he got 3 solos and a sack. If this was his warm up, I’m excited to see what he looks like when he hits his stride. He’s a very special talent and a star on the rise. Catch him while you can.

Defensive Backs

Morgan Burnett (S, GB) – Last chance! We’ve been pushing him since before the season started, he headlined this list last week and his 7 solos, 1 sack and 2 pass deflections are your last call to go get him. He won’t be on this list next week as he is officially a “no brainer” starter and shouldn’t be on the wire after this week.

Jon McGraw (S, KC) –  We saw him come off the bench last week with 8 solos in place of Eric Berry, and now we saw what he can do “full-time” with 10 total tackles, 1 INT and 2 pass deflections. He reminds me of Bernard Pollard when he played safety for KC.

Lardarius Webb (CB, Bal) – Twenty one tackles in two weeks! However, we have to keep a close eye on the injury list because both him and Cary Williams are filling in for Chris Carr and Jimmy Smith. If he’s available in your league and you’re not happy with the way your cornerbacks are performing, Webb may be exactly what the doctor ordered.

George Wilson (S, Buf) – Wilson was dropped in a lot of leagues after the confusing situational package that Buffalo used week 1. They went back to their base package week 2 and Wilson had a solid day. The real reason he’s here though is because they face New England next week where they made a no name Miami strong safety look good and provided Eric Weddle with 12 tackles in week 2. Wilson should have a big week 3.

Jacob Lacey (CB, Ind) – Lacey put up 5 solos and a forced fumble week 1 and 9 tackles (6 solos) week 2 so I’m excited to add him as my CB2 when they face the Steelers next week.

Jarrad Page (S, Phi) – I’m getting the feeling he’s going to be solid all year. It only makes sense to throw the ball toward Page when your other choices are 3 pro bowl cornerbacks. Page should average 6-10 tackles a game all year.

Husain Abdullah (S, Min) – He’s been extremely consistent with 6 solos and a pass deflection in each of his first 2 games. He also picked up an interception week 2 vs. Tampa Bay. The big reason he’s on the list is he faces Detroit next, who has been very safety friendly in the box scores.

Linebackers

NaVorro Bowman (ILB, SF) – After starting week 1 with 7 solos, he follows up week 2 with 9 solos, an assist and a pass deflection. That makes him the second best breakout IDP linebacker this year, just behind Sean Lee of the Cowboys. Sneak him off your waiver wire and start him as your LB3 with LB1 upside. He’s outscored Patrick Willis two weeks in a row.

Rolando McClain (ILB, Oak) – Due to his horrid week 1, a lot of people dropped him. As I said in the Week 2 IDP Preview article, a weekly 32 team matchup preview published every Friday, McClain will be fine because we saw what he could do in the second half of 2010. He showed that this week with 10 tackles and 3 pass deflections. He’s a solid LB3.

Thomas Howard (OLB, Cin) – Week 1, he beat out Rey Maualuga in the box scores with 8 total tackles, 3 of them solo. Week 2, he does it again with 7 solos and 1 assist. It’s hard to tell if this trend will continue, but Howard had a lot of IDP value when he used to play for Oakland so he has enough pedigree to validate these performances.

Rey Maualuga (ILB, Cin) – I’ve seen a lot of people drop Maualuga, but my gut instinct is he’ll end up with the highest numbers for the Bengals by the end of the season. His next matchup vs. the 49ers should get him at least 7 solos. He had 6 solos, 1 assist week 2.

Stashed Jarret on my PS and picked up Coleman preseason. 5 Tackles in 2 Games. Looks like Page is the guy. Safe to drop Coleman?

Hi Monk,

2 questions.

1. Would you drop Kurt Coleman and add Jarrad Page?

2. Please rank the following DL. Morgan, Hardy and Sheard

Thanks!

What about Hawthorne, is he safe to drop at this point?

Hi Monk! Would you stick to the underperforming stud players such as D Ryan, Thomas Davis and Hawthorne for a few more weeks? Or drop one of them to pick up prospects such as D Butler, Weatherspoon, Bowman, Woodyard or T Howards?

monk, love your insights. it's been very helpful to me as I learn the IDP side of fantasy football (and distracts me from a disastrous draft).

I had derrick morgan and dropped him in favor of shaugnessy, chancellor, weatherspoon, hawthorne, nick barnett, winfield and pouha. who would you recommend I cut from my team if I were to pick him back up?

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk. You're the man! Worried about Hawthorne at all after his start? Also...how would you rank these linebackers: Briggs, Maualuga, R. Mcclain? Thanks!

jyager said...

Hey monk great stuff here. Which de would you rather pick up?

1pt assist tackle
2pt solo
2.5pt tackle for a loss
3pt pass deflection
5pt ff
5pt fr
6pt sack
6pt td
6pt int

Of these three:
David Ball
Ryan Kerrigan
Derrick Morgan
Greg Hardy
Jabaal Sheard
Darnell Dockett

I know Dockett was supposed to be good and probably still will be but who else do you like in order on this list?

Monk,
would you drop Roman Harper for Morgan Burnett?
Thank you for what you do and continue to let the Son shine.

Now that Thomas Davis is out for the season, are there any LB's in Carolina worth owning? Thank you Monk!

How does GB losing Nick Collins for the season effect the way they are going to play Morgan Burnett? Does his value go down? Do they start playing him farther off of the line? What are your thoughts, Monk?

Hey Monk,

Thanks for the hard work as always.

Whats your feeling on TJ Ward going forward? I looked at his schedule and I don't see any heavy pass teams asides from week 9 vs Houston to get him the tackles. Should I plug in T. Branch or should I pick up McGraw/ K Chancellor? M Burnett is snagged and I have L Webb.

Thanks

Sean

Which one would you start out of these 3? P.Pos,Bowman Navorrow, B. Rudd.

And these 1 out of these dbs . D.Whitner,S.Jones,A. Rolle

3 pt tack,1 assist,5int,4sac

Monk, you do a great job thanks. Just lost Thomas Davis in a deep IDP league. Who do you like going forward out of Kavell Conner, Donald Butler, or Stewart Bradley(they gave him a big contract, have to play him eventually, maybe starts now)?

Thanks

Hello Monk, Kam Chancellor or Morgan Burnett? Thanks

Hi Monk,
Would dropping Osi Umenyiora for Jabaal Sheard be a good idea. My other DL's are James Hall, Matt Shaughnessy, and Derrick Morgan. Should I drop one of these other guys and keep Osi on my bench and pick up Sheard?
Thanks as always.

I am in a 2 DB required league. Would you drop T.J. Ward for Reshad Jones moving forward or keep Ward and hope he pans out, as he did last year?

RickHughart82 said...

I'm in a league that requires you start 2 DB's.

Scoring is as follows:
2 pt - Solo
1 pt - Assisted
2 pt - Int
3 pt - Sack
1 pt - Pass Defended

Would you drop T.J. Ward for Reshad Jones moving forward or keep Ward and hope he pans out, as he did last year?

everyone who has questions this week on who to start and in what order I'll be doing that long ranking list again here tonight or tomorrow so I apologize to those of you who wrote long questions but that's the best way to do it moving forward I will answer some of these unique ones now though so ill still want to check back and read these comments each week

I'm going to start with in overall statement on david hawthorne he is fine he was just coming off injury last week and is reps were limited he is still a stud and youll see it throughout the year as he gets more and more healthy

on kurt coleman from the eagles yes everyone is right I love the way he tackles but hes not getting opportunities and jarrett pages the way to go

regarding morgan burnett he will be moving to the free safety and charlie peprah will be starting at strong safety but don't panic honestly morgan burnett has been playing higher than thou you these last 2 weeks anyway so you're going to see a drop off charlie peprah has value but not as much as you may think he was good before because it was a poor free safety but morgan burnett is an athlete and packers will keep him in the action

Unknown said...

I understand your concerns about tj ward but he is 1 of the best Idp safeties in the league give it a couple more weeks if you can bench him for some other safety you feel better about I understand but do not drop him you'll end up regretting that big time

I see you are ranking Reed Doughrty pretty high - What about Landry coming back and taking some of those tackles?

your Question
I see you are ranking Reed Doughrty pretty high - What about Landry coming back and taking some of those tackles?

My Answer:
As I've mentioned before, I play IDP week to week and have found that's the best way to win so I'm not a believer in "rest of the year" guys as things change weekly in the IDP world. At this point, I still see Reed starting Monday night and I like the matchup vs. Dallas so that's why the ranking. We need to watch and see if Landry is ready instead, but I haven't seen that yet.

Hey monk, just a quick question if you have time
Should I drop garay for Darnell dockett for my DT position? DT required league, scoring tackle 1, assist 0.5 , sack 3, forced fumble 3, tackle for loss 1
Thanks

Monk,

Just read your comment about the tropical storm - hope you and yours are doing okay.

My Q:
According to your rankings, I should bench Terrell Suggs and start Posluzsny. I find this very hard to take, as Suggs is currently my #1 points-getter on defense, while Pos is dead last. I know we've only played two weeks of football, and if any opponent can get Pos back on track, Carolina is it... but you can see my hesitancy to bench Suggs. How do you justify ranking him so low? Also, it looks like Daryl Washington might play this week against Seattle - if he does, where do you see him in the rankings?

Rev Macker said...

Monk, considering your week-to-week approach. how long should I hold out hope for david hawthorne?

and along those lines, who would you start this week for DE: dave ball or matt shaughnessy?

thanks so much, and hope you guys are recovering well!

How's it going Monk?

Tramon Wiliams is now listed as probable. He was listed fairly high on your ranking (first list) last week, but appears to be unranked this week. Will you be updating your rankings or his he really not expected to perform?
Thanks, love your blow

Hey Monk thanks for all the great advice. Just found your site. I can pick up Jason McCourty from FA but I would have to drop either P. Chung or T. Williams. Would you suggest dropping either and if so which one?

Thanks in advance!
