DBs
SS R. Doughty WAS has been very solid since starting for Landry. For the second week in a row, he had 7 solos and 3 assists. He faces Tampa Bay week 14 and last year he had 10 solo tackles and an assist vs. the Bucs. I'm picking him up on my team with the hopes that he posts similar stats.
CB Cortland Finnegan TEN vs. the Colts. Hey! Guess what! Peyton Manning throws a lot of intereceptions. It's beyond surprising at this point, but simply a fact. Finnegan is a good IDP play vs. Manning this week. Finnegan also has 70 tackles on the year so far so if he doesn't get an INT, you're still good with a 6 tackle performance.
SS Craig Dahl STL and Oshiomogho Atogwe STL vs. New Orleans are both solid this week. Here's a hidden stat for you. Atogwe has faced the Saints 2 times in his career. He had an INT in both of those games. You're not looking at more than a 5 solo tackle game from Atogwe, but he did record a sack last week so that's a possibility too. Dahl is the tackler out of the two. He's had 7 solos in his last 2 games and registered his first INT of the year last week vs. ARI. He has a swollen knee so he'll be day to day this week. Hopefully he'll be fine though.
CB Brent Grimes ATL gets Carolina. Carolina is not a passing team so this doesn't sound like a good matchup on paper. But my thinking is Atlanta will be so far ahead of the Panthers in this one that Carolina will have no choice, but to throw a lot in the second half and this will pad Grimes stats. It also makes the possibility of an INT much greater. He had an INT last week and has 4 INTs this year. He had 6 pass deflections last week and you can put him down for 4-6 solo tackles. Again, just a solid guy to feel safe about.
SS Abram Elam CLE vs. Buffalo. So far I've named safe plays, but Elam is more of your Boom or Bust guy facing Buffalo this week. Here's why I say that. The last time he faced Buffalo, he had 1 solo and 1 assist and he's averaged 2 tackles a game in his 4 career starts vs. Buffalo. But in those 4 games, he's had a INT that he returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble and a sack. Players remember when they have big games against certain teams. And this is a different Buffalo team since last time they faced each other so anything can happen. So if you're looking for a "swing for the fenses guy", here he is.
LBs (not a lot of great options off the waiver wire this week, but McClain does have a nice matchup)
Before I start this write-up on the LBs, I need to address LB Takeo Spikes SF 17 tackle game vs. Green Bay. I have to call that a mirage at this point. Considering he had a 3 tackle week before this, has to compete with Patrick Willis for tackles and his next matchup vs. the Seahawks is not very good, I cannot reccomend him as a pick up this week. Let's see it again.
LB Rolando McClain OAK put up his second 7 solo game in a row and I would not have expected it vs. Miami or San Diego so now that he faces the Jags, who understands they need to get MJD lots of carries in order to win, I'm excited to see what McClain can do against a good matchup. Oh, and by the way, Tulloch put up 14 solos and 3 assists vs. the Jags last week so if McClain doesn't get 8 solos, I'll be shocked. Is this going to be the game when McClain finally gives us a preview of why so many had him pegged as the next Patrick Willis? Could this be his breakout game? I'd love to see a 10 solo 2 assist type of game out of him!
LB Shaun Phillips SD faces the double headed monster of KCs running game week 14. My guess is 6 solos and a sack which makes him the best pick off the waiver wire in my book.
LB Clint Session IND is a possibility week 14. Keep an eye on his injury near the end of this week. You could be sneaking a top 15 LB back onto your roster and pull one over on the rest of your league. Think of him as the Kenny Britt of defense. Risky being fresh off an injury, but his upside is worth the roster spot.
LB Mario Haggan DEN has a sack in each of his last 2 games and I see that continuing vs. Arizona. However, I also don't see more than 3 or 4 tackles for Haggan in this one so if he doesn't get that sack, he leaves you with low points at the position.
LB Banta-Cain NE vs. Chicago is almost guaranteed a sack and maybe even 2. But he's far from a tackle machine and may only get you 2 or 3 solos.
LB Shanle NO is still a good player despite a slow game and he's a decent flyer vs. the Rams if you need a fill in.
DLs (again, not a ton here so if you feel pretty good with what you have going into the playoffs, don't reach for any of the guys below)
DE Charles Johnson CAR got another sack and 4 tackles. Keep riding him while he's hot.
DE Carlos Dunlap CIN has 3.5 sacks over the last 2 weeks and he gets Big Ben week 14 to continue his hot streak. You won't get a bunch of tackles out Dunlap so you have to put your faith in his sacking ability to get your points.
DE J. Pierre-Paul NYG is coming off his second 2 sack game in a row and he faces the Vikings next. IMPORTANT: If Farve is QB, Paul gets the GREEN light, but if Jackson is QB, look somewhere else because he's hard to catch.
DE T. Suggs BAL & DE Haloti Ngata BAL do not have as good of a matchup as last week, but they are such good athletes, they deserve a mention if you're out of other options this week. Especially Suggs, who will get his no matter what.

Sweet Waivers Adds as always. Thanks for the hard work man. One question, do you have any recommendation for a good source of regularly updated IDP rankings? I'm constantly analyzing the quality of my Defense but I usually find i'm rockin a roster of Waiver Wire adds. Some stay hot, most dont. Looking for sell highs and buy lows and overall rankings for Dynasty League.
Thanks again, you rock!
Monk,
A few playoff questions for you:
I currently have James Hall starting....with Ch.Johnson, Mathis, Ky. Williams, Avril, Clemons, Pierre-Paul, and Vandenbosch available. Who would you prefer for the playoffs?
Who would you start if both are healthy, Whitner or Landry?
Thanks as always!
Thanks for the help so far Monk, but now that the playoffs are here, I need your advice more than ever. My loyalty to players is out the window, time to win! Since you've only posted your DB info for this week so far, I'll just stick to DB questions. (1.75 solo, 1 assist, 4 PD, 6 INT, 5 sack, 4 FF, 3 FR)
I have to start ONE safety and have:
Abram Elam @ BUF
Bernard Pollard v. BAL
Do you like either of these to start? Or, do I look to someone on the wire like:
Charles Godfrey v. ATL
Reed Doughty v. TB (Landry coming back?)
Craig Dahl @ NO
Dawan Landry @ HOU
ALSO, I have to start TWO CBs and have:
Devin McCourty @ CHI
Asante Samuel @ DAL
Jerraud Powers @ TEN
Powers has to be dropped becuase of injury. Do I just start Samuel and McCourty? Or, do you like any of these wire guys better:
Captain Munnerlyn v. ATL (depends on Gamble)
Jacob Lacey @ TEN
Drayton Florence v. CLE
Antoine Winfield v. NYG (who I dropped 3 weeks ago)
Perrish Cox @ ARI
Sheldon Brown @ BUF
Thanks. I appreciate your hard work and advice, Monk. Best IDP info on the Web!

I can start 3 dbs I can choose between B. Pollard, TJ Ward,Greg Toler, and Terrell Thomas... Help
Monk,
Concerning the "Your picks are junk" comment, don't let it bother you. It's one ass-clown out of many, many people who are consistently helped by your great IDP picks. I have 4 outstanding DBs to fill 3 spots because of your advice. I consistently have at least one of my defensive players in the top five of fantasy producers on my roster (although that reveals a bit about my offensive players, too, hah). Really, the numbers speak for themselves. Looking forward to your LB/DL picks for this week. Thanks again for all the help Monk!
Is Hawthorne or Farrior worth a look over Timmons or D.J. Williams this week?
Thank you.
Hey Monk!
It seems ur very busy lately.
Quuestion
Is terrance newman a good start? all the CB u listed are gone i have bryant mcfadden as well... so who shud i start newman, mcfadden, or another waiver wire option (name some) wat u think? huge week for me its the playoffs!!!
Which LB? Pick two
poz
tulloch
willis
thanks!
Monk,
It is playoffs and I am in it to win it. We are a (assist/tackle/sack/int - 1/2/6/9) league. I need three this week (Willis, Timmons, Vilma, Hawthorne). Tough? Timmons is a stud but has been slow since his hip injury, Willis plays Seattle, and Vilma has been ok for the last two. Thanks again.

Addition to last post...
If you don't like any of the lb I have poz, tulloch, Willis this week I can grab McClain. Is there a néed to?

Monk,
Thanks for all your help.
LB Mario Haggan might be moved to MLB this week against ARI. Does this help him?
Thanks,
Chase (Atlanta, GA)
Hey Monk! On fire again! Thank You!! Need your expert advice again. DB,s Tillman,Delmas
LB,s Briggs,Greenway,Farrior,Bishop
DL,s

Are any of your waiver matchups better than what I have and can you pick 3 LB,s or combo,or better LB,s matchups?
Monk,
Wanted to add to my last comment. Farrior is also available. So it is three out of Willis, Timmons, Vilma, Hawthorne, Farrior. Thanks again.

Which one DB this week: Hope, Bethea, Winfield or Dahl? thx
Monk - question on Studs to play
James Anderson home(Atl) or DJ Williams (@Arz)? Figure Anderson will be on field more. & Out of these 3 Db's who would you go with?- Landry, Pollard, or Terell Thomas
@Phorts
Yes. A guy on here recently told me about KFFL.com. If you go there and click on rankings and find LBs, DBs & DLs. They are very like-minded to me. They are aggressive and I can tell they look closely at matchup plays. Be careful though. I can tell that sometimes they just leave a guy in the same place as they had him in the previous week and it makes no sense to have him there again. They are also very reactive based on how the guy did the week before in some cases.
They are good at defense overall though, but don't trust their ppr WR advice. I've seen that they pretty bad at that. They've had Nate Burelson in the top 15 for 4 weeks and never did get that one right.

James Hall has been strong all year and he is the one to stay with. I like Clemons and Charles Johnson off that list the most. But Mathis is a seasoned vet and may come through strong to help the Colts get into the playoffs. I would not go Williams, Pierre-Paul or Vanderbosch for the duration of the playoffs.

@Maze
Sorry for the late advice. In order to go for the win, I would definitely go Godfrey first as the top of my list and then I feel really good about. It's balsy, but those are the two I feel best about.
For DB, I do like Devin McCourty.
I did like Cox as a sleeper, but his arrest for sexual assault scares me due to a possible in-team suspension

@ Willie,
It's Thomas, Pollard and Toler vs. Denver.

@James
Timmons definitely has upside and DJ had been a regular stud, but you have a great point about Hawthorne or Farrior. The good news is I would go Timmons over Farrior. The bad news is I would take the risk of Hawthorne over Williams this week due to matchup. That's a crappy situation.
A last second super upside guy is Brandon Siller of San Diego. If he is starting in place of Cooper, he has big tim upside. Your in a tough situation and I apologize for the last second advice.

@Eli
I am insanely busy. Unbelievable how much build up with on you with 3 kids, 12 years of marriage and 2 jobs. I feel like I'm losing my mind at times.
Terrance Newman and Mcfadden ar so close, but I think I would go McFadden.
At LB, it has to be Willis & Poz, but I'm too late to recommend Tulloch at this point so I apologize

@DonnieCA
Willis, Timmons & Hawthorne

@ Chase
It does help Haggan if that happens, but don't trust him for the playoffs if you have better options.

@ Alex
Your DBs of Tillman & Delmas are OK, but upside guys like Dahl & Doughty could have better games due to matchup, but I admit that there's enough risk that it takes guts to make the move in the playoffs.
Hey Monk! On fire again! Thank You!! Need your expert advice again. DB,s Tillman,Delmas
LB,s Briggs,Greenway,Farrior,Bishop
Your DLs are fine. My Dunlap pick is as much of a risk as any of the guys you have.

Loving the Hope & Dahl Matchups
