Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups - NFL Fantasy Football 2011

Byes: Panthers, Lions, Jaguars, Vikings

Immediate Pickups

Linebackers
(Some LBs to point out who were on this list before and should no longer be on your Waiver Wire are NaVorro Bowman, Rolando McClain, Ray Maualuga, Donald Butler, Daryl Smith, Wesley Woodyard, Thomas Howard, Gary Guyton, Brandon Spikes, James Farrior, Brooks Reed. If they are still on your Wire, pick up those guys before anyone listed below)

Chris Chamberlain (OLB, Stl) – Arizona has been sacked more from the linebacker position than any other team. Look for Chamberlain to get 4-6 solos in Week Nine with a shot at a sack.

Sam Acho (OLB, Ari) – Acho now has a sack in two games in a row and faces St. Louis and a possibly rusty Sam Bradford who was easy to sack prior to his injury. In addition to his sacks, he also has 7 solos over his last two games so he’s a solid fill-in for your team.

Calvin Pace (OLB, NYJ) – Between the bye week and slow matchup Week Seven, I’ve seen him on multiple waiver wire’s out there. His matchup vs. Buffalo Week Nine is a good one and in the last two solid matchups he had vs. Miami Week Six and New England Week Five, he combined for a total of 13 tacks and 2 sacks in that two game stretch.

Lawrence Timmons (OLB, Pit) or Jarrett Johnson (OLB, Bal)  – It’s crazy to think Timmons is on the waiver wire, but I happen to know that he is after studying percentages and the sad thing is it actually makes sense that he has been dropped in so many leagues. It’s also hard to believe that the last time Timmons faced Baltimore in Week One, he put up 10 solo tackles. In case Timmons is not out there for this Week Nine Ravens/Steelers rematch, Jarrett Johnson is a nice consolation price. In a three week span, Jarrett is averaging over 6 tackles and gam and has 2 sacks.  Jarrett got a half sack on Big Ben Week One and should carry over his latest sack streak into this game.

Defensive Linemen
(Some DLs to point out who were on this before and should no longer be on your Waiver Wire are Kyle Vanden Bosch, Phil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, Ahtyba Rubin, Derrick Morgan, Andre Carter, Aldon Smith, Jeremy Mincey, Brian Robison, Greg Hardy, Carlos Dunlap. If they are still on your wire, pick up those guys before anyone listed below)

Chris Long (DE, Stl) – He hasn’t done much up to this point, but his 3 sacks vs. Drew Brees is perfect timing as he’s facing Kevin Kolb Week Nine, who he can also sack multiple times.

Kelly Gregg (DT, KC) – If there’s any chance he’s on your wire, I like him in both DT required leagues and as a DL2 for Week Nine vs. Miami. The Dolphins can win big/lose big or play a close game and whatever the result, you can almost guarantee that Matt Moore will be sacked at least 4 times in a game. You Tamba Hali owners are especially lucky, but I like Gregg’s chances for a sack in this one as well.

Jason Hatcher (DE, Dal) – Why am I recommending a guy who didn’t have a sack Week Eight and only a couple solo tackles? Dallas faces the Seahawks next week and Week Eight was Hatcher’s first week off injury. The truth is that decent defensive linemen are slim pickings so when a quality one like Hatcher is sitting on the wire with his potential, you want to snag him before he has his breakout game. Seattle could be that game.

Lamarr Houston (DE, Oak) – Tebow was sacked 7 times Week Eight.  I think that stat alone should be enough of a reason to roll the dice on Houston as a DL2 Week Nine.

Defensive Backs
(Some DBs to point out who were on this list before and should no longer be on your Waiver Wire are Morgan Burnett, Kam Chancellor, Dashon Goldson, Jon McGraw, Eric Smith, Sean Jones, George Wilson, Reggie Nelson, Charles Godfrey, Jordan Babineaux, Justin King, Husain Abdullah, Charlie Peprah, Terrence Johnson, Tanard Jackson, Ryan Clark, and Lardarius Webb. If they are still on your wire, pick up those guys before anyone listed below.)

Stanford Routt (CB, Oak) – Are you watching Tebow’s mechanics?  It almost looks like every ball that leaves his fingers has the potential to be intercepted. Routt’s last game stats were 9 solos, 1 assist and a pass deflection. I like his chances facing for an INT vs. Tebow.

Darian Stewart (S, Stl) – I’m not recommending him because he got an INT for a TD Week Eight vs. New Orleans. I’m recommending him because this is the fourth game in a row that he’s had 6 solo tackles or more. That’s awesome stuff and he faces Arizona next where he has a good shot at a blitzing sack where many strong safeties have their first sack of the year on Kevin Kolb. Bernard Pollard had a fantastic game vs. Arizona Week Eight.

Josh Gordy (CB, Stl) – He’s there only other healthy corner and he’s had very good back to back games. His 7 solos, 1 INT, and 1 pass deflection Week Eight should carry over nicely vs. Arizona Week Nine in a game that should be very evenly matched and a fight down to the wire.

Richard Marshall (CB, Ari) – For the second week in a row, Marshall had another great game, finishing Week Eight with an INT and 6 solos with 3 pass deflections. His matchup is not terrific vs. St. Louis next week, but he definitely a guy to look at as your CB2.

So many choices for a bye week fill in, would love your thoughts;

fill in for C Johnson/DL position

T Cole vs CHI
J Smith vs WSH
A Carter vs NYG
J Peppers vs PHI
C Dunlap vs TEN
A Rubin vs HOU
D Morgan vs CIN

If you could list maybe top 2-3 as I am last in WW pickup (since I am 1st in league:) ) as may not get my top choice.

Thanks so so much, love your blog, been following it for over 2 years now and it has been a huge help to ruining the other teams in my league who ignore IDP positions!!

Monk,
Love your blog. I check in every week and rely on you for my IDP decisions. This week, I notice that you have Jason McCourty ranked ridiculously low--lower, for instance, than Tampa Bay CB Aqib Talib! Please help me justify starting Talib over McCourty! I mean, McCourty will probably be covering AJ Green, and Andy Dalton has nobody else to throw to! Help me out Monk!

Monk Chris houston is 3rd now in Fantasy Points Per game in my league (I know he has 2 TDs so it may be skewed) but you do not have him listed yet as a pick up. What are your thoughts going further.. what type of guys would you rather have over him (just a DB league, not a CB only)
