Hey monk,
I need your help. David hawthorne didnt play and I got 0 from him. Barrert rudd is available should I get him? He had a huge week! Also how serious is tucks injury? Should I be finding a replacement. Also you may want to add jason pierre paul to this list. He had 2 sacks and 5 tackles I believe. With osi he out he should be explosive especially if tuck sits as well!

Unknown said...

@ Eli

Sorry that you didn't get the news on Hawthorne. I sent out an email about warning about his injury and answered a lot of comments about playing other guys instead of him this weekend.

Yes, Ruud is an elite and I had him listed higher than Hawthorne on my pre-season LB list I sent out in email.

Also Jason Pierre Paul should be on no one's waiver wire for leagues that require a DL. So if he's on yours and your in in a DL league, definitely grab him. I also had him listed top ten on pre-season DL list. He may lose some value when Osi & Tuck are both back, but we'll see.

Monk,

I need to start 2 LB out of the following: Nick Barnett, Lance Briggs, EJ Henderson, Pat Angerer and Sean Weatherspoon.

Also, I currently have Roman Harper as my DB. Should I drop him for Kam Chancellor.

Thanks

yager said...

Picked up Kam and he was awesome! Do you think when Hawethorne returns he will suck up all those tackles leaving far fewer for Kam?

Hello Monk,
D'Qwell Jackson had a great game. Is he waiver wire worthy for a pickup?

I can play 3 lbs and 3 DBS in a tackle heavy league.
Lbs ( L. Timmons, Demeco Ryans, deqwell Jackson, P. Poz)
DBS ( D. Whitner, Ed Reed, B. Scott T. J. Ward)

1. Do I drop Darnell Dockett for Antonio Garay at DT?

2. Do I drop either Desmond Bishop or David Hawthorne for FA D'Qwell Jackson or Barret Ruud? Or do I stick with Hawthorne/Bishop?

3. Do I drop Malcom Jenkins for either Jason McCourty or Ladarius Webb at CB?

4. Played Patrick Peterson last week and he did very good for me. Do you see that continuing?

5. I have Tyvon Branch at S while I wait for LaRon Landry to heal. Yeremiah Bell is available. Is he an upgrade to Branch?

Thanks for your advice. You're a mensch, Monk.

Hey Monk,

I know that in the past you've looked carefully at the Buffalo D, and was wondering what your thoughts were on Barnett and Wilson going forward. I realize the game was a blow out, but wadja think? Also did you see what the deal was with Louis Delmas??

Thanks,

Will

Unknown said...

Nick Barnett & Pat Angerer or Sean Weatherspoon (if you get 4+ sacks in your league, it's Weatherspoon, if you are in a tackle heavy league, it's Angerer)

Briggs & Henderson are very solid, consistent guys, but little upside for the "huge" game.

No, keep Roman Harper over Kam Chancellor

Monk's Answer: Awesome defensive thinking! Yes, there is a chance that may happen. If Morgan Burnette is available in your league, he's another option for a big play safety and so is Craig Dahl. Great thinking. We'll have to see on that.

____________________

Yes, if D'Qwell Jackson is on your waiver, he should be your number 1 LB over everyone but Willis. We just needed to see if he still "has it" and he does. He's the 2nd best LB in IDP right now. I love Desmond Bishop almost as much too though.

I'd go Timmons, Jackson & Poz vs. the Jets this week. If Poz can't get it done vs. the Jets where backup Sean Lee just got 10 solos, a sack, pass deflections and an INT then he sits for Demeco week 3.

DBs - Whitner, Ward & Bryan Scott because McGee will miss time, Byrd will go back to CB & Scott will start. Scott is an insane IDP stud.
If Ed Reed doesn't get big plays like INTs, then he usually gets you nothing.

League Starts 1LB, 1DE, 1DT, 1S, 2CBs. I have a question in each category except DE (Have Trent Cole)

Q: 1. Do I drop Darnell Dockett for Antonio Garay at DT?

A: No Dockett's too good.

Q: 2. Do I drop either Desmond Bishop or David Hawthorne for FA D'Qwell Jackson or Barret Ruud? Or do I stick with Hawthorne/Bishop?

A: I love Bishop, I love Ruud & I love D'Qwell. Keep starting Bishop until he lets you down. He hasn't yet.

Q: 3. Do I drop Malcom Jenkins for either Jason McCourty or Ladarius Webb at CB?
A: No, don't worry about Jenkins. He'll come around and you're getting Safety value from a CB position. Stick with it and we'll review next week.

Q: 4. Played Patrick Peterson last week and he did very good for me. Do you see that continuing?

A: Why not! It worked for Greg Toler. Maybe it's a magic IDP spot and your the first to cash in.

Q: 5. I have Tyvon Branch at S while I wait for LaRon Landry to heal. Yeremiah Bell is available. Is he an upgrade to Branch?

A: Nope, Branch is still better then Bell

_______________

I have the same problem starting guys as you. All these guys I love and we haven't had enough time to see how all the new defenses are yet so it will take until around week 3 to start seeing trends. We have to rely on our proven studs until we can recognize clear matchup plays.

2 LBs - Bishop & Poz vs. the Jets

2 DBs - Chung & Ward
Can't drop Whitner quite yet for any of those guys. Need at least another week to see what Whitner does.

DL - Vandebosh vs. KC Absolutely
Dockett grew up with me on the Maryland line just outside of Washington DC and we both played in a Chesapeake Bay classic together at RFK. I think he'll have a little extra hop in his step playing against his favorite childhood team and hometown area.

___________________

@Will

I was shocked when I saw Louis Delmas numbers and it looks like he played. I'd have to say Speivey is the play their unless we see otherwise.

As far as Buffalo D. Barnett was all over the place and the stats guys completely screwed him out of at least 3 assist and a definite pass deflection that they missed. He has had 3 near miss sacks. So it will come for him. Wilson got shuffled when McGee got hurt so Byrd went to CB, Wilson deep safety and Bryan Scott played a "hybrid" rover or strong safety/linebacker type. Very tricky stuff to predict there. Gotta watch closely this week to see what they're going to do.

Anonymous said...

Monk....Thoughts on Sean Lee for DAL? I need to shore up my LBs and want to know if you think he will be a consistent performer.

Unknown said...

Sean Lee is a very strong watch. Here's the exact story straight from the other linebackers.

Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking acknowledged the obvious on Monday when he admitted he has been replaced in the starting lineup by second-year player Sean Lee who opened the game opposite Bradie James.

But not only did Lee start but he got the bulk of the snaps at inside linebacker with veterans Brooking and James alternating for much of the game until Lee needed a breather in the second half.

"I knew going into the game that it was going to be that type of a rotation," Brooking said. "I don't know what the deal is moving forward. That was kind of the game plan going into that game. He was on quite a few special teams as well. So it just depended on how the game went. As many reps as he was getting, that's when we kind of started rotating a little differently toward the end, when Bradie and I were out there together as well. Really, the coaches have a luxury at that position. You've got three guys that obviously are really good football players. No matter how the rotation goes, who's out there, I think it's a good situation regardless."

Lee certainly responded with a strong game, leading the team with 11 tackles while also recording a pass deflection and an interception. Brooking had four tackles, and James had none.

Brooking said he wants to be on the field more, and he will never be satisfied with being a backup. But said Lee is deserving of a bigger piece of the pie, and he will accept his role.

Unknown said...

As far as ranking. I still like and trust Nick Barnett most. And I'm fine with taking a chance on Sean Lee over Butler based on Lee's opening night performance, but I might get someone like Sean Weatherspoon who already has a permanent role and looks to be a box score stud this year.

You are the man Monk. I can play 4 LB's and I have Timmons, Bishop, DeQwell & now 'Spoon. Ready to roll with you make sound like of the top LB's. If your not first, your last.

Curt said...

Hey Monk,
I need some help here man! I have the #2 wavier claim, and the guy with the #1 will certainly claim Cam Newton. No offensive player out there on our wire seems worthy of spending such a high priority claim on. But I was wondering if I might be well off dropping Daryl Washington for Weatherspoon, Angerer, or Sean Lee. What say you?

Anonymous said...

Monk, I have Mayo, Washington, Barnett and Butler as my LB's ... we start 3. 1 pt tackle/assist, 4 pt sack, 5 pt int, 5 pt FF, 2 pt PD and SF. Which one (if any) do you drop for Weatherspoon, Angerer or Lee?

Hi Monk,
I have Hawthorne, Laurnitis, and Maluaga. S. Weatherspoon Connor is available on wire. What do you suggest?

Unknown said...

Monk,
Just found you recently on the interweb and I really like your analysis. Needless to say I will be coming back from now on for my IDP info.
2 questions for you:

If I were to pick up D'Qwell Jackson, should I drop, Demeco Ryans or Chad Greenway? I already have Desmond Bishop.

In terms of DB's I had Eric Berry and he's lost for the season now. Antoine Winfield is still out there as well as a few other good players. Should I pick up Kam Chancellor over Winfield or do you sugggest anyone else say Aqib Talib, Patrick Peterson, or Ladarius Webb?

Thanks

Unknown said...

@ Curt
No, keep that waiver spot and keep Daryl Washington.
_______________
@Anonymous
I drop Butler for Weathersppon if you get 4+ points in sack heavy leagues or Butler for Angerer for tackle heavy leagues. Still not sure about Lee being a starter or not. Might be a one week wonder.

_______________

@Anonymous
My 2 LBs for the Season would be Laurinaitis & Desmond Bishop. That can change if we seen a consistent drop in one, but those are the 2.
_______________

@Anonymous

No, do not drop TJ Ward AND Tyvon Branch for Burnett and Ladarius Webb don't make that mistake in week 1. Trust me, you'll regret that move all season. It's just week 1. Ward & Branch are the names you'll see at the top of the IDP scoring list when the year's over. I love Burnette so watch him, but we can't trust Webb yet. He was just filling in for the injured Jimmy Smith.
__________
@Anonymous

I just dropped Maluaga for S. Weatherspoon because I figure if Rey is only going to put up 3 solos vs. Hillis, then how much upside does he have. I could be wrong there, but I took he leap to Weatherspoon. Don't replace any of your other guys with Connor.

Monk's answers:
I love the combo of Bishop & DQwell so I agree. I think I'd drop Demeco Ryans and keep Chad Greenway. I think Viking D will be on the field more than Houston and people will run on the Vikings more.

Hi Monk:

Thanks be to God for your recent conversion. God indeed is great.

I've got 2 'D' spots, 1 'DB' spot, and 1 'LB' spot and these guys:

DQwell
Hawthorne
Bishop
Harper
Chancellor
TJ Ward

League is basically 5 pts for solo tackle, 1 for assist, and 3 for INT. What's your take?

Monk,

My league format is 5 D and 3 DB.
Scoring is a point per tackle, 3.5 for a sack, 3.5 for an int, 2 for a fumble forced or recovered, 1 for a PD.
Q1: Currently I'm filling my D's with all LBs; I'm pretty happy in that department:
Posluszny, Suggs, Bishop, Woodley, Nick Barnett, Daryl Washington, and Rey Maualuga (and I have a waiver in for either Sean Weatherspoon or Pat Angerer dropping Mau). Should I consider adding a DE over any of those LBs? You mention Babin and McDonald, do you like either of them over a LB?

Q2: The only DB that really did anything for me this week was Patrick Chung - I also have Deon Grant, TJ Ward, Marcus Trufant, and Dawan Landry. I know we've only gotten through week 1, so I should probably wait before making any hasty decisions, but if I were to cut one or two for, say, Kam Chancellor and/or Craig Dahl, both of whom are available, who would you recommend? FYI I am leaning toward dropping Trufant first.

Thanks for all your help Monk! You always give me great advice for my IDP league, and here's to another winning season!

X said...

monk, I'm an IDP virgin and you're a godsend! I'm in an ESPN league with one of each required: DT, DE, LB, DB.

I have 3 DE's: shaugnessy, lamarr houston and derrick morgan. my DT is sioune pouha.

my LB's are david hawthorne, matthew barnett and demeco ryans. my DB's are winfield and finnegan.

who should I keep and who should I sacrifice for any of the waiver picks you recommend? i'm willing to keep a backup or two on LB, and maybe one or two on the other positions.

thanks!

Also I need to fill a D spot. Shold it be with a DB or a LB. Rudd is still out there or I could be filled with one of the DB above. Angerer is also out there as well as witherspoon.

Also wanted suggest someone and see what u think. Henry melton on CHI for those who need DT. He plays for a sick defense and should be productive. Thoughts?

Hi Monk,

SS C Dahl- STL
SS B Scott- BUF
SS M Burnett- GBP
LB C Greenway- MIN
DL T Cole- PHI

Available:

LB D Connor- CAR
LB P Angerer- IND
LB R McClain-OAK
LB D Washington-ARI
LB D Harris- NYJ
LB S Weatherspoon- ATL
LB K Dansby-MIA
LB Hawthorne- SEA
LB D Ryans- HOU
SS R Nelson-CIN
SS G Wilson- BUF
and of course, Maualaga and Barnett

I am playing 2 safeties in my Def flex position and got not a whole lot out of Maualaga-CIN and Barnett- BUF. I switched to B Scott for G Wilson in BUF. Good move? What are your thoughts and my long term prospects? I am literally last in my league and disappointed; not because IDP failed, more my Offense did not show. Figured if I have good core IDP, then maybe change 1-2 players based on matchups. thoughts?

Thanks for any help.

Hello Monk,

GB Sam Shields
DET Chris Houston
STL Justin King
JAC Drew Coleman
NO Jabari Greer

Also Amari Spievey's available, and I saw him rotate in as safety I think. Is that a safer play over risky CB's?

We only start a handful of IDP spots:
1 x LB
1 x DB
1 x DL
1 x DP (ie. any IDP)
... So there's always a lot of talent out there.

How would you play this? This year, I'm thinking I'm going to swap out my DP every week (I have laurenitis as my LB, Trent Cole as my DL and now Morgan Burnett as my DB).

Which 2-3 LBs do you think will totally kick ass in week 2? I'm looking for someone who might not be a great season-long hold, but rather is set up to do really well in week 2.

I see Lofton and Farrior are both on the waiver wire, and Sean Lee and Lance Briggs are both free agents.

So what do think for week 2?

Hey Monk,

Love your insight! What are your thoughts on Kiwanuka? He is listed as a DL in my league, and I have to start 2. I'm currently rolling with him and Suh. Shaugnessy is also a FA - think I should drop either one for him?

Hey Monk,

Great blog. Where does Michael Griffin fall in your DB rankings? How do you feel about him this year? Thanks!

Hey Monk! One guy in my league just added like 4 of these guys. I think he's onto us! Who should I start this week at my Flex, Donald Butler vs NE or Navorro Bowman vs DAL? Thanks!

To EVERYONE. We got hit horrible by Tropical Storm Lee and I'm doing I'm gutting my walls and helping neighbors and I can't answer each question.

However, I have been doing a running total this week of an "everything list" that hopefully helps you. Here it is. I'm sorry if your answer isnt there. It just applies to week 2, but in many cases it carries over to the rest of the year, but those of you who know me know that I don't believe in "rest of year" ranking. No such thing. Hi Monk,
From the other comments, it looks like you're in wait-and-see mode on Webb. But is he a good play if Smith sits on Sunday (currently listed as questionable), or was that performance a total fluke? There are other options available on my WW that you've ranked higher, but I'm wondering if there's good upside potential here provided he gets the right opportunity again.
Thanks!

monk, that ranking list for week 2 is awesome. you should do that every week. might save you time from answering the same question 5 times over. thanks!

Hi Monk,
This is my first time in IDP league. Which 2 should I start for the rest of the season: B Urlacher, M Burnett, D' Jackson, C Woodson, C Lofton, A Winfield, S Lee, or L Fletcher?

Thanks

Hey Monk, what is wrong with Barrett Ruud. Had a great Week 1, but now has stunk 2 weeks in a row? Should I cut him?
