Immediate Waiver Wire Pick Ups (all in order by priority)
DEs
I put DEs first this week to tell you to go get both MIN Jared Allen and Ray Edwards right NOW! Seriously, get both on your team right now. Don't even bother waiting for the explanation . I'll wait while you go check your wire and add them. I'm dead serious, go check now and add one or both...
... OK now that you did that, I'll tell you why. Not only did both of those guys get 2 sacks a piece week 9 vs. Arizona, but now both of them get Jay Cutler and the Bears week 10. You won't get anything closer to a guarantee than this. If both Jared & Ray don't each get a sack vs. the Bears, I will be extremely surprised.
DE Tamba Hali KC got another sack. The guy is money if you can get him.
(on bye) DT T. Kelly OAK finished with 3 solos, a sack and a forced fumble. He has been a great d lineman to own
(on bye) DT Richard Seymour OAK has had 3 sacks in the last 3 weeks and finished with 7 solos in week 9 so when he comes off bye, he's worth an add.
LBs
LB Gerald McGrath TEN vs. Miami is your first choice off the waiver wire this week.
LB Stephen Nicholas ATL is my matchup pick for week 10 vs. Baltimore. Baltimore has been making linebackers look like IDP all-stars all year and Nicholas has been a solid fill in for Sean Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon has been out since week 3 so no reason to think he'll be back in week 10. It's safest to check that out later in the week, but in all probability it will be Nicholas, who just finished with 8 tackles vs. Atlanta.
LB S. Fujita CLE vs. NYJ week 10 is my other matchup pick. You've seen Fujita put up big games, but it's hard to predict when and where. He has a very nice chance of doing so vs. the Jets. I'm going out on a limb and guessing an 8-10 tackle week for him.
Re-Reviewing LB Paris Lenon ARI and the change of the Cardinal defense. Lenon had a solid game vs. the Vikings with 5 solos and 2 assists, but all linebackers have had good games against the Vikings. Lenon has been slowly fading like we predicted. He's still a fine low end LB that I still like, but no longer the guy you turn to for "big points". I'm still feeling Gerald McGrath TEN more than him this year and I look at Justin Durant JAQS as I guy I'd want just below Lenon, but it's really close and I think Durant has a higher point potential, but might not be as consistent as Lenon.
LB Justin Durant JAQs is ready to be added to your team.
LB Mario Haggan DEN vs KC week 10 has the potential of putting up another 8 solos facing Thomas Jones & Jamal Charles.
LB DeAndry Levy DET had a really big game with 9 solos and an assist against the Jets. Keep in mind that the Jets give up an incredible amount to IDP points to LBs, but this is a great sign for things to come for Levy. Unfortunately, week 10 vs Buffalo is not going to be one of those weeks. I'm guessing he comes back down to earth with 4-5 solos. If not though and he shines again, then he is the real deal and will be really high on the list next week. He's definitely worth a snatch and grab if you have the roster space because his potential is as big as anyone on this list.
IS LB Quincy Black TB on your wire? He is a guaranteed 5-7 solos a week guy so keep that in mind whenever need a guy like that from week to week.
LB P. Angerer IND finished with 6 tackles in week 9. It should be noted that all of his tackles came after he took over MLB for Gary Brackett when Gary went off the field with a lower leg injury. So even though Clint Session was out for this game, Angerer did not get any extra tackles until Brackett was out. The Eagles are an odd running team so keep it in mind that Philly is not friendly to LBs as well. Indy takes on Cincy next week who have also abandoned the run a bit because they are behind so often. So only pick up Angerer if Brackett is out for that game.
DBs
CB G. Toler ARI continues to stay on this list because the %s in the leagues I keep seeing say he is still only owned in 40% of teams out there in FF leagues. He is literally the #1 CB out there and potentially the best all around IDP guy. He plays Seattle week 10 where he had 10 solos and 2 assists against just 3 weeks ago during week 7.
S E. Weddle SD had done it enough this year to prove himself again. He should be the number one pick up for you if you can get him. If you need to make some bold moves on your teams to make the playoffs than I'd start Weddle over the likes of TJ Ward for the upside opportunity.
SS Courtney Greene JAQs is coming off bye and facing Houston where Eric Weddle just racked up 8 solos. Greene racked up 8 tackles 2 weeks in a row going into his bye and as long as he's still in the lineup going into week 10, I think he has a good chance of doing it again.
S Eric Berry KC has become a better football player week after week and even though his tackle numbers against Oakland (besides his 2 rare sacks) do not knock your socks off, the trend is pointing to him putting it all together for the rest of season. He's a good athlete and he gets pass happy Denver week 10. He had 10 total tackles vs. Buffalo week 8 I like him for 7 solos and some pass deflections vs. the Broncos. He had an INT vs JAc & BUF and now 2 sacks vs. OAK. He's worth the risk in my opinion if you have T Branch or R. Harper on bye.
Mirage:
LB D. Hawthorne SEA had 9 solos and 3 assists vs. the Giants who were so far ahead that they starting running for most of the game. Hawthorne's numbers where nowhere close to this prior to this game so we can't get our hopes up. Let's see it again.
Observations:
The linebackers for Miami went OFF vs. Baltimore. Linebacker have had HUGE tackle numbers vs. the Ravens all year so instead of trying to figure out if you should pick up any of the Dolphin linebackers who all had rare games, look at the guys who get Baltimore next.
Don't worry about Z. Diles for Houston. San Diego has a very odd running game so that was about the worst matchup for LBs as you can have.

Hey monk!
Well u certainly are the king! Stylez was great for me! Thanks!
Now for this week...
Start two lbs... Tulloch, poz, timmons. Which two?
I dropped stylize for Edwards I had dropped Allen last week for white so I guess that sucks for me of he starts producing! O well!
Which dt do u think I shud start this week since Kelly is on a bye?
Also shud I drop Chung or ward for weddle at all?? Ward in my league has been super productive gettin me atleast 22 PTS almost every week and sometimes more... Who has te better shcedule for the season? Wat shud I do to win??
Is Yeremiah Bell still worth starting every week from here on out? His weekly Yahoo projections are so high that it's almost misleading, and yet he's not getting better numbers than many other players. With guys like Whitner, Bishop, Tulloch, and others out there waiting to picked up, seems like I'm missing out on some valuable points each week.
Hey monk,
We play two idp players, and right now I'm playing poz and Timmons every week. But, Toler's out there on the wire, and i wonder if I should pick him up and play him over either one of those guys this week?
Thanks!
Just a heads up that Dan Connor has been put on IR and Thomas Davis will not be coming back this year. Jon Beason will be moving back to MLB so hopefully he might start making some plays for disappointed Beason owners like myself (especially with Matt Moore, Stewart and Deangelo williams injuries the defense should see lots of time on the field)
who would you rather have ray edwards or julius peppers?
Who do you like out of these DL's?
Edwards, Avril or Long.
Thanks
Hey Monk!!
For just this week: do I want to start Stephen Nicholas or Justin Durant?
Thanks!!
xk
Thanks for all your help, Senor Monk.
You mentioned Nicholas as a good matchup play, assuming Weatherspoon is out. Would you take Nicholas over Durant this weekend? One of those guys will be spot replacing Bishop for the weekend.
What happened to Chung?
BEASON IS BACK IN THE MIDDLE!
Any Denver Homers out there???
Someone told me that Jason Hunter (who is listed as a DE in my Yahoo league) is actually playing snaps at LB? I've noticed hes had some good tackle numbers the last few weeks and would be a sneeky play if this is true. Can anyone confirm if this move is permanent or was just due to injury?
I have Bishop, Fujita, and Lofton. Would you drop any of these guys for Durant or McGrath?
Brilliant Observations and Mirage, also its information is brilliant and great to read.

Monk I love your site.. It has kept me 1 step ahead in my league since I found you two years ago. Thanks. I got 1 quick question.. In my league we play 3 lbs, I own p. Willis, D. J. Williams, rocky McIntosh , clay Matthews , and desmond bishop. I can only keep 3 who should I stick with for the rest of the year when greenbay is off their bye in week 11. Scoring is 1pt tac, .5 ast, 3 sac and int , .5 sac/ int yd, 3 ff, 3 fr 6 td.. Thanks Will
Would you pick Tamba Hali over Stylez White?
hey monk.i have clemons and cole j.allen at DE and poz at LB.
Should i grab r.edwards and t.hali off the wire this week?can you rank all these players in order?
Hey Man, just wanted to point out it's Gerald McRath, not McGrath. Had a hard time finding him in my league but i figured it out!
Hopefully he keeps it up vs MIA. I like his chances vs Chad "Boo" Pennington and the MIA run game.
Great call! Thanks as always. You da man!
Hey Michael,
Really like your site and words can not express my gratitude in regards to your work, input and time you put it in. Just a recommendation to all..
ARI DE/LB O'Brien Schofield
My league has him as DE, but under Arizona Cardinals' site he's listed as a LB. Schofield just got released from the PUP list and is now on the active list. MIGHT be a guy to watch closely in the coming weeks.
CJ
Sorry guys, getting a late start this week. My work sent me to a trade show all week and this if my first chance to see everyone's comments.
The first thing I can address and I know I'm too late for many of you, but Nicholas was frustrating to watch last night. He had an INT in his hands at one point and was a half step away from having 6 more tackles, but Lofton was like the energy bunny and beat him to each of those. The opportunities were not there as much because Atlanta led so quickly in the game and Baltimore had a crappy time of possession and threw much more than expected to catch up. I had Nicholas in and his 10 points in my league are weak. It's going to be hard to watch if McRath or Durant go off this week since I chose Nicholas over both of those guys. I'm dumping Nicholas for McRath for the rest of the year. Nicholas was just a one week matchup play that coulda, shoulda, woulda, but didn't quite happen. Congrats to you Lofton owners out there though!

Question
I have Bishop, Fujita, and Lofton. Would you drop any of these guys for Durant or McGrath?
Answer:
Nope, I'd stay right where you are this week. I have this funny feeling Fujita is going to go off and I'm trying to get up the nerve to start him over D. Johnson this week on my team

Question
Hi Monk, who do you like better going forward if you only can choose one. Diles, Levy, or Bishop?
Answer:
I think Bishop is your safest best from those 3 at this point
@ marmstrong
Exactly. Cushing is thinking a lot and he's not really a thinker. He's more of the type to just attack. So it will take a couple weeks to adjust.
If I had your team, I'd be looking for a way to get Ward in this week. I think I'd go Ward over Durant this particular week.
____________
@ will rose
Willis, DJ & Matthews for your upside player
Question
Would you pick Tamba Hali over Stylez White?
Answer:
Yes
____________
@ Bob
Question
hey monk.i have clemons and cole j.allen at DE and poz at LB.
Should i grab r.edwards and t.hali off the wire this week?can you rank all these players in order?
Answer:
Poz is your LB no doubt
Trent Cole is my favorite DE
T Hali is my second favorite DE
Clemons is next
Allen then Edwards
Allen & Edwards are just waiver wire matchups this week. They've been bad all year otherwise (other than last week)
