IDP Week 2 NFL Fantasy Football 2010 Waiver Wire Pick Ups

Before I toot my own horn a bit over Patrick Chung, someone please explain to me how defensive end K. Vanden Bosch got 10 solos! I don't see this happening again, but in the horribly hard to predict world of DLs, he's worth a grab over Avril or Alex Brown or some of those others in the middle of the pack this year. Obviously don't drop J. Allen or Trent Cole etc. for him, but why not drop Stylez White for him.

Week 2 IDP Pick ups

LB D. Johnson KC  Go GET HIM NOW!

SS Patrick Chung NE opened up the season vs. the Bengals with 12 solos and 4 assists.  (you heard it hear first) He's the next version of B. Pollard/ Bryan Scott from last year. Go get him. I'm starting him over Brian Dawkins next week to give you an idea of his value.

LB Ellison BUF Poz is out for 2-3 weeks and Ellison is his backup.  A solid backup with upside. A little risky because he blew assignments last year and Bryan Scott came in and took over. A bit of a revolving door at times last year when Poz was out.

LB Dan Connor CAR  10 solos 3 assists and a sack (I don't care if he's coming out on 3rd down or not. If he's putting up these numbers on limited snaps, just think when the Panthers realize they need this guy on the field every play!  I'm picking him up and starting him over Michael Boley next week!

LB Zac Diles HOU is filling in for Cushing until he comes back. And with 9 solos and 3 assists, he's a nice pick up (especially for you Cushing owners out there)

LB Paris Lenon ARI  finished with 7 solos and an assist vs. Steven Jackson week 1. Week 2 he faces M. Turner of ATL where L. Timmons of PIT just racked up 9 solos and 2 assists.  Lenon is one of 2 starting ILBs in ARI and rookie LB D. Washington is on the other side, but I'm trusting in Lenon from his Detroit Lions days. Lenon  won me a fantasy championship with a 13 tackle 2FF game a couple years ago and he racked up 116 tackles that year. So there's more proof that he has been an IDP stud in the past. So pick up Lenon for week 2 if you need a solid LB who will get you at least 6 tackles. But keep a watch on rookie D. Washington in that game as well for a potential star on the rise.

CB Greg Toler ARI finished with 13 solos and a forced fumble week 1. He won't be directly covering Roddy White in week 2, but McFadden from the Steelers just had 12 solos and 2 assists week 1 covering White. Only if your league requires a CB, pick him up for week 2.

DE K. Vanden Bosch (as I mentioned above) 10 solos so he's worth a shot as a DE on your squad.

Watch VERY Closely

SS TJ Ward CLE had  7 solos 3 assists and forced fumble.  Not a bad start to the season.  I would not start him over a Brian Dawkins, but he's VERY, VERY close to making the "pick up" list

Watch Closely

CB D. Butler NE looks like a pretty exciting cornerback. Keep an eye on him.

LB Keith Rivers Bengals had 7 solos 3 assists vs. NE and he was my sleeper coming into last year, but never fully panned out in 2009. Maybe he'll be a more consistent IDP LB this year. Just watch for now.

LB A. Davis BUF got 2 solos & 6 assists.  Getting there just a tad earlier on some more of those tackles and we could be talking about 6 soles and 2 assists, which is "starting material".

Monk,
What are your thoughts on LaRon Landry and his potential impact as a DB?

Thank you for the great help. As a IDP rookie this site is very valuable. I am in a bit of a dilemma.

I have:
C.Lofton, P.Poloushny, D'Qwell Jackson and D.Hawthorne. Should I release Hawthorne for Dan Connor?

I have:
Bell, Harper, Goldson & T.Jackson. Should I pick up P.Chung instead of Tanard Jackson?

I am very weak at DL:
Vanden Bosch, D.Morgan & W.Hayes. But there is nothing interesting to pick up at that position.

Best regards the from Copenhagen.

What about the Lofa-Hawthorne situation?

Hey Monk!!

Really excited that you're back for another year!

of this list, can you pick 3?

Derrick Johnson / DeAndre Levy / D'Qwell Jackson / Jerod Mayo

Thanks!

Hey Monk - Great calls on TJ Ward and Chung. Should I start TJ over A.Wilson or C.Tillman?

thanks!

KGJ said...

Well, Poz is out for a few weeks, so now to raid the WW. I'm thinking Ruud against CAR? I guess he's the more consistent play rather than gambling on a S for my "D" spot.

Any suggestions on a DT pickup? I have Ratliff now, just worth sticking with him?

Thanks Monk

I LOVE Landry a LOT! I consider him top 10 this year, maybe even top 5 this year. Get him!

Unknown said...

@ Copenhagen

Your question was:
C.Lofton, P.Poloushny, D'Qwell Jackson and D.Hawthorne. Should I release Hawthorne for Dan Connor?

Answer:
Yes, I would get Connor over Hawthorne.

Your Question:
Bell, Harper, Goldson & T.Jackson. Should I pick up P.Chung instead of Tanard Jackson?

Answer:
ABSOLUTELY get Chung over Jackson!

Your comment:
I am very weak at DL:
Vanden Bosch, D.Morgan & W.Hayes. But there is nothing interesting to pick up at that position.

Answer:
You actually have the most interesting guy of the week in Vanden Bosch. Your fine where you are. Unfortunately, DLs are almost NEVER interesting. Hard to predict so you really just try your best to play the wire on them. Hybrid guys like Trevor Scott are often listed as a DE in some leagues, but play LB are sneaky plays. I'll try to look up a list of these types of guys and do a post about them.

Unknown said...

No situation between Lofa & Hawthorne after the first game.

It's clearly Lofa until we see otherwise.

Unknown said...

Hi Kim!

Pick 3 below is fairly easy at this point because DQwell won't be back on the field until week 3 or so and even then we have to be careful.

However, MLB DeAndre Levy was inactive because of a groin injury week 1 and I don't know his status for week 2. See if Dan Connor or Zac Diles is on your waiver wire as a possible fill in this week.

Derrick Johnson / DeAndre Levy / D'Qwell Jackson / Jerod Mayo

Unknown said...

@ marmstrong

Maybe Ward over Tillman, but not A. Wilson.

Anonymous said...

Monk, I've got Poz and I'm looking to replace him with either Keith Ellison, Andra Davis, or Derick Johnson, they are all avialable, and need a replacement untill Poz and D'qwell get back? Who do you think has the most upside. 2per solo, 1 per assist, 3 sack/ff/int

Thanks

Unknown said...

Monk,

Spot on with P. Chung! Thanks for all your help. I've won my league two years in a row due in part from your knowledge. Kuddos to you and keep up the great work.
What are your thoughts on CB G. Toler (STL). Is he worth considering in the upcoming weeks? They go to ATL this week?

Chase (Atlanta, GA)

Unknown said...

@ KGJ
Yup, Ruud is a nice sub for Poz.

Ratliff seem as good of a DL as any. I'm guessing your league differentiates between DL & DE. Obviously almost any DE would be better than Ratliff who's a noseguard, but as far as interior defensive linemen, Ratliff is one of the best to own.

Unknown said...

You're looking to replace Poz with either Poz and I'm looking to replace him with either Keith Ellison, Andra Davis, or Derick Johnson

I think I'd choose Derick Johnson out of those 3 only because the Bills are unpredictable and you know Johnson is the starter. I smell potential Bryan Scott sightings if Ellison blows his assignments like he did last year. I really like Ellison's upside, but it's a little too risky for my taste if you have a choice between him or Derrick Johnson.

hey monk, love your work!
who would you select between landry against houston or chung againt the jets for my DB? ive also got tyvon branch on my roster. i also got pollard starting at my D position

Unknown said...

@ Chase

I do like Toler, but he was covering the second receiver Mark Clayton who happened to get most of Bradford's targets. Cromartie will be on White and his whopping 22 targets from Ryan vs. Arizona.

I do really like the idea of Toler, but Ryan doesn't trust in his second receiver near as much as Bradford did. It's a bit of a risk but those numbers he put up make it a VERY tempting risk. If you're a gambling man, I think Toler could still end up with at least 7 tackles in this one, but probably not 13. Then again, he could. (there's the boom/bust of it)

Unknown said...

Between Landry vs. Houston, Chung vs. Jets, I would definitely go Landry vs. Houston. HUGE numbers there!!! You'll be very pleased!

Hey Monk,

1st off, tackles=1, assisted tackles=.5, sack=3, int=3, pass defended=1.

I have the following linebackers (3 start): Ray Lewis, Jon Beason, Karlos Dansby, and Kirk Morrison.

Should I drop any of these guys for Clay Mathews or D. Johnson?

I also have T. Branch at Safety. Is Chung so good that I should pick him up?

Thanks!!!

Unknown said...

@ Jake

Your Scoring
1st off, tackles=1, assisted tackles=.5, sack=3, int=3, pass defended=1.

Your Question
I have the following linebackers (3 start): Ray Lewis, Jon Beason, Karlos Dansby, and Kirk Morrison.

Should I drop any of these guys for Clay Mathews or D. Johnson?

Answer:
That is VERY tough question. I have to tell you that my gut instinct is to drop Ray Lewis and replace with Clay Matthews and replace Kirk Morrison with D. Johnson. However, I just don't have the heart to pull that same trigger on my own team. As I say, that is my gut though. Ultimately, you need to make the decision because it is very early, but both Matthews and Johnson have very high upside as opposed to Lewis and Morrison who both have ceilings. I have a bad feeling Ray Lewis will not be an IDP stud all year. He's simply not 9-14 tackle guy any more. His ceiling is more like 8. Where Matthews could be Cushing of last year and D. Johnson could be D. Hawthorne of last year. Ultimately, you have to ask yourself if you have the guts to make that move. I have not on my team yet, but I'm kicking myself for being a pussy because I spent such a high draft pick on Ray Lewis and it's a bit too early to bail on him.

Your second question:
I also have T. Branch at Safety. Is Chung so good that I should pick him up?

Answer:
Not yet, but potentially soon. Give it a couple more games and we'll know that answer. The Jets are a good test. If Chung goes off again, it gets even closer to that move.

Jake said...

Thanks for the advice monk.

Keeping in mind my scoring settings, since I have 1 D spot (any position is eligible) if you had to take only one of the guys we talked about (Chung, Mathews, or Johnson) off the board thinking that you could play them as a flex, who would you take?

Anonymous said...

hi monk, im really thin at DL as its impoosible to get consistent numbers there. i have osi umenyiora who did get me 17 points last week, should i keep him for this week againt the colts or find a replacement?

Anonymous said...

hello monk, who would you keep as your permanent fixture at lb dan connor or derrick johnson???

Purple Kush said...

Excellent advice, as usual, MONK!!

What are your thoughts on Eric Weddle and his 1-tackle game versus KC? I'm sure it's an anomaly, but he also wasn't very impressive last season (I know, he wasn't at full health). Is he still a Tier 1 DB in your opinion? I'm itching to pick up Landry or Chung, due to their upside.

Also, we start a CB in our league. I had Johnathan Joseph last week. Any suggestions for CBs in Week 2, other than Toler?

Cheers!!!!

At LB i have ray lewis, kirk morrison, and derrick johnson and anthony spencer....i need 2 to start...who should they be?

Michael Griffin or Kenny Phillips this week and going forward?

hey monk,

loved your site since last season, thanks for all the great advice.

i wanna add derrick johnson, but i gotta drop ray lewis, bradie james, or david hawthorne. what do you think?

thanks

KGJ said...

Thanks Monk. League actually has slots for DL, DE, and DT. I have Cole and Allen as the DL/DE for the rest of the year (picked while there was a two-round run on D/ST and K... go figure), and I will keep Ratliff in the DT spot.

Now for the money question... Ruud against Carolina's rushing attack and backup QB, or Johnson against an anemic Cleveland squad?

Unknown said...

@ Jake

Keeping your scoring in mind, it's Clay Matthews at this point

Unknown said...

Keep OSI in vs. Indy

Unknown said...

dan connor or derrick johnson is the $24 million dollar question right now.

I'm leaning toward D. Johnson over Connor because of his speed and big play ability on passing downs, but this is close.

Unknown said...

@ Purple Kush

Thanks!

I gotta tell you that I avoided Weddle like the plague in this years draft. I do not like him. I believe he's living off his name. I could be wrong, but my personal bias is I'd love to have Landry over him moving forward. He's going to be a beast. Chung will have his down games here and there, but I think Landry will be a stud as long as he stays healthy.

Other than Toler as a CB, I've got this feeling about Butler in NE. Don't know that this week will be his week vs. the Jets, but he's really exciting. I watched him vs. the Bengals and he was all over the place.

I'm loving Cromartie covering Roddy White. He's going to put up big numbers, but they could move White around and Toler could get a piece of that action too.

Unknown said...

@ Steffen

I would not drop Vilma. No.

Unknown said...

Your question is who to start out of ray lewis, kirk morrison, and derrick johnson and anthony spencer

I'm going to give Ray Lewis one more week because he's facing the Bengals and Cedric (up the middle) Benson.

I would go D. Johnson over K. Morrison this week, but it's close. Please don't drop anybody. We're just feeling this all out at week 2. I just have this feeling Ray Lewis has a ceiling of 8 tackles and will probably fall in the 5-6 tackle range for the season with little upside on INTs or Sacks. I want to beleive differently for the legend, but his name may be bigger than his numbers. Guys like D. Johnson, Clay Matthews, D. Connor & Zach Diles (short term) may prove to be more valuable. Let's wait and see what he's got left. He's got to be a step slower at 35 years old.

Unknown said...

Your question:
Michael Griffin or Kenny Phillips this week and going forward?

It has to be Griffin right now, but Phillips is my long term answer as he continues to trust in his healing and gets his game back.

Unknown said...

Your Question

i wanna add derrick johnson, but i gotta drop ray lewis, bradie james, or david hawthorne. what do you think?

Answer:

It has to be Hawthorne at this point. He's clearly not the main man in the middle this year. Johnson will get you more points unless Lofa gets injured again

Unknown said...

@ KGJ

It's Ruud over Johnson.

Anonymous said...

Monk,
Thanks for all the great info.
Need to start 3 of the following: Chung, Pollard, D. Johnson or D. Washington (like the Atlanta matchup).
And do you (or would you) do a weekly player ranking? Would help a bunch of us out.
Thanks

hey monk, m. kiwanuka is listed as a dl in my league even though he plays lb as well, is he a go and get him right away pickup???

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk,

Thanks in advance as always you rule with your IDP info! It's rediculous... seriously..

anyhow ,

I have only 5 bench spots in my league that has IDP (insane) so there I have no extra spots to stash players. The IDP is set up where you need 2DB 2LB and 2DL. I used your draft list and got the following: Beason, Poz, Pollard, Delmas, Cole, Mario Willians, and currently have Chung, Will Smith and D'Qwell on the bench. I just dropped POZ due to the knee injury and my lack of bench spots to grab Connor. Should I dump Connor and go for D Johnson instead?

Thanks

Sean

Unknown said...

Out of Chung, Pollard, D. Johnson or D. Washington (like the Atlanta matchup)

I would go Pollard, Johnson & Chung Washington is a watch closely, but a potential pick up soon.

Unknown said...

m. kiwanuka is a good player. It depends who your dropping on whether you should go get him or not, but yes he's a good one.

Unknown said...

@ Derick

Your Question

Im in 2 IDP leagues this year, but in my 14 team auction league I decided to take Ndamukong Suh and got him for $1. Obviously he has incredible talent but do you think it hurts his fantasy value playing on the inside? Vanden Bosch, Odom and Umenyiora are available and Freeny was just dropped and will clear waivers before this weekend.

Scoring is: 1pt for tackle, 2pt sack, 1pt Forced Fumble, 1pt Fumble Recovery

Should I stick with Suh or play someone who has an outside spot?

Answer:

I know Suh is the next great D tackle, but in IDP, you ALWAYS choose a DE over an inside player. Out of the guys you listed: (Vanden Bosch, Odom and Umenyiora are available and Freeny) I would go Osi, but watch Bosch because 10 solos is just insane!

Answer:

Yes, Johnson over Connor. Connor is still coming out on most of the nickel & dime packages. Johnson is your guy. I would start Chung over Delmas moving forward until you have a reason to do otherwise. I hate to see you drop Poz, but that is a tough call between him and D'Qwell. I think I'd keep Poz over D'Qwell, but that's your call. It's a tough one.

Monk,
I have Haynesworth at DT in a 16 team league where you must play 1 DT and 1 DE. With his status, do keep his as a starter or find another DT?
Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Tyvon Branch or LaRon Landry for the rest of the season? Thanks Monk!

Unknown said...

@ Long.Live.The.Fade

I think there will be a place for Zach Diles and his production at SLB will be higher than his production last year, but sharing tackles with the wild man Cushing who will have A LOT to prove when he comes back (picture a hungry Tiger being released from his cage in a fenced in area stocked with gazelles) I think Demeco Ryans owners will have to worry a bit just like last year. So applying simple fractional math here, it simply leaves Zach Diles sharing pie with two other professional pie eating contest guys. His sliver will be around 4 tackles. Don't forget that Pollard is there too. There's simply not enough tackles to go around to all of these stars.

Unknown said...

@ Aaron

Your question:

Per your suggestion, I picked up D. Johnson and want to throw him in this week. Would you sit McClain or or Goldson to make room for Johnson

LB - R. McClain
DL T. Cole
DB - D. Goldson
DP - A. Wilson
DP J. Mayo

Definitely Goldson this week. McClain faces Steven Jackson and he'll be seeing a full dose of him. Bradford has to avoid the "true best corner in the NFL" so the Rams will really depend on Jackson this week which bodes very well for both McClain & T. Branch

Unknown said...

Your Question:

Tyvon Branch or LaRon Landry for the rest of the season? Thanks Monk!

Answer:

It has to be Branch. He's proven that he did it before. Landry throws his body around like a wild man and tends to be injury prone. I love Landry's upside, but this is his first year at SS if their FS struggles, he cold be moved back there. Branch is just more predictable at this point. But if Landry stays at SS & starts every game this year, I think he'll edge out Branch. But not by a whole lot.

Unknown said...

Your Question:
I have Haynesworth at DT in a 16 team league where you must play 1 DT and 1 DE. With his status, do keep his as a starter or find another DT?

Answer:
Haynesworth is all name at this point. You have to drop him and not get caught up in previous accomplishments. Is Suh, K. Gregg, Ratliff or one of the Williams available? Or this new kid at KC, Tyson Jackson, who has a slight ankle problem right now.

Unknown said...

@ Alicia

Until we see rookie McClain go off, which he really should do against S. Jackson & the Rams this week, I'd roll with Derrick Johnson vs. Cleveland. His numbers Monday night speak to for themselves. He's a super athlete and as long as he stays out of the coaches doghouse (which he was in all last year), he will do well.

It's important to note that you should not drop McClain for D. Johnson. McClain is in the situation to be the next Patrick Willis. His upside is way higher than Derrick Johnson's upside for the longrun. Dan Connor is still not getting all the plays in the nickel and dime plays so he's still being taken off the field in obvious passing situations. So he's third on that list of yours.

What are ure thoughts on Cameron Wake? Wake or Daryll Washington this week?
Eric Berry or Michael Griffin?

Anonymous said...

Monk,
I found your last year and value your opinion.
I am in a 12 team IDP league.
I have C. Woodson, B. Rudd and R. Mathis.
What should I do, D. Johnson and P. Chung look like studs. Should I concern trading Woodson?
Should I look for replacements for Rudd and Mathis?
Thanks,
Eric

Unknown said...

Your Question:

What are ure thoughts on Cameron Wake? Wake or Daryll Washington this week?
Eric Berry or Michael Griffin?

Answer:
Your asking about all the guys that I'm not particularly excited about any of those guys (yet). Out of all the guys you listed, I'm most excited about Eric Berry's situation. And then Daryl Washinton's ability next. Michael Griffin's play was amazing, but situational week 1. He'll come back down to Earth. I believe Berry at SS will end up with more IDP value than Griffin when all is said and done.

Cameron Wake has been getting very hyped, but I just don't see it there. If he was listed as a DE, I'd be very excited, but he's n LB in all the leagues I've seen. Crowder, Bell & Karlos will get all the meat there. So D. Washington over Wake as an LB & Berry over Griffin moving forward in tackle heavy leagues. It's closer if your league rewards more for INTs PDs and big plays.

Unknown said...

Your Question:

have C. Woodson, B. Rudd and R. Mathis.
What should I do, D. Johnson and P. Chung look like studs. Should I concern trading Woodson?
Should I look for replacements for Rudd and Mathis?

Answer:
I need a little more detail on your team. I'm assuming you must start a DB, LB & DE based on the 3 players you mentioned. If this is the case, I would keep Woodson Ruud & try to see if Vanden Bosch is out there to replace Mathis at DE.

If this is not the case and you can have any 3 defensive players you want, you need to drop Mathis and replace him with D. Johnson. The other 2 are fine. Chung will probably be more consistent than Woodson game in and game out, but Woodson is a super star and has humungous upside. He has very big play capability, but could also get you a 3 tackle game at times too. But not usually.

Your question:
Which 2 db's this week: Winfield. michael griffin or Kenny Phillips?

Answer
Winfield & Griffin because Phillips just needs a tad more time to fully prove himself

Question:
which 3 LB's : Laurinitis, Levy, Mayo or Darryl Washington?

Answer: Laurinitis & Washington would be the guys I'd start this week. I don't trust Levy quite yet and Mayo vs. Buf does not impress. Not the way he's been playing.
