DBs (Defensive Backs)

CB Darius Butler (NE) rookie CB had 8 solos vs. Miami week 13. He faces Carolina week 14 who will have no choice but to pass to keep up with NE and Carolina is good for DBs.

FS DeCloud (ATL) vs. Drew Brees. Redskins Landry just got 12 solos vs. Brees week 13. Don't expect that much out of DeCloud, but he played well last time he played NO. Coleman is still the Safety you want in this game, but DeCloud should be a solid fill in for you.

C. Harris & R. Marshall (CAR) vs. New England. Not sure if either is on your wire, but both are great plays vs. Brady, Welker & Moss. I would choose Marshall over Harris if given the choice. He just finished with 9 solos and an assist vs. TB week 12 and will probably end up higher in the box scores than Harris again week 14.

SS Bernard Pollard (HOU) just finished week 13 with 11 solos is by far the best guy on this list.  I'm thinking he's not on very many waivers any more, but I just wanted to tell everyone how much I like his matchup week 14 vs. Seattle.

My DB PICKUP OF THE WEEK S Melvin Bullit (IND) vs. Denver week 14.  No only did he just finish with 11 solos week 13, but now he'll face very Safety friendly Denver where Mike Brown (who's been an absolute ghost) just finished with 8 solos.  I LOVE THIS MATCHUP!  My favorite waiver wire pick up this week.  If you wonder how much I like this, I'm starting Bullit over Bryan Scott on my own team this week.

LBs (Linebackers)

LB Jamar Williams (CHI) filled in for Lance Briggs and had 13 solos 5 assists & 2 pass deflections. WOW! He faced the Rams, which is an unlikely candidate for a good matchup so I believe this has to speak to his talent. It's hard to tell if Briggs will be out again vs. Green Bay next week, but Williams should be monitored if he starts again. So for now, he's just a watch and be aware.

LB Quincy Black (TB) vs. NYJ week 14. He's consistently puting up solid numbers and now he faces the NYJ, which is a decent matchup for an LB. He put up 9 solos, 2 assists, a pd and a sack vs. ATL week 12 and now led his team in tackles week 13 with 6 solos and an assist.

LB K Burnett (SD) vs. Dallas week 14. Dallas has been very LB friendly over the past few weeks and Burnett produces in good matchups. He's worth a play if your LB has a bad matchup.

MY LB PICK UP OF THE WEEK is LB Quincy Black (TB) vs.

DLs (Defensive Line)

The DL/LB David Bowens (CLE) , Calvin Pace (NYJ), Trevor Scott (OAK) & A. Spencer (DAL) and even Joey Porter (MIA) were all duds week 13.  But as I looked around the box scores, only the easy matchup predictions came to fruition like Shaun Ellis, Kelsay, Schoble, Ogunleye . The good news is David Bowens (CLE) , Calvin Pace (NYJ) & Trevor Scott  all have good matchups week 14 so in comparison to the mess that is the DLs this year, we'll take it.

NON Defensive End Casey Hampton (PIT)  vs. CLE week 14. I have to recommend him again here. Not over a Kelly Gregg or other stud DTs, but he's reliable and facing the Browns.

DL Julius Peppers (CAR) vs. New England week 14. So he's not really a waiver wire guy, but I've been leary of him when answering questions about him. New England is the overall best matchup vs. DLs all year. I was surprised by that too when I did the math. Them and NYJ yield the highest points to DLs. Good matchup for Peppers.

MY DL Pick up of the Week is Stylez White (TB). vs. NYJ week 14. Both Buffalo DEs got sacks and had good games vs. NYJ just like most teams do who face the Jets. I'm not recommending Wilkerson because his last full sack was week 5, where White got 2.5 sacks week 12 vs. ATL and all 5.5 of his sacks have come after week 5.

MY Other DL Pick up of the Week is Tamba Hali (TB). vs. BUF week 14. One of our "anonymous" wise readers pointed this matchup out and I'm sorry I missed it. He had 9 solos, 1 assist and 2 forced fumbles vs. Denver last week!  Are you kidding me!  Now he faces Buffalo. Great, great tip from one of our fellow IDP brothers. At this point in a desolate DL point in the season, this guy is now the official highest recommendation of the week and I mean over Jarred Allen and definitely Stylez White.  Because when no Saints DL gets a sack on the Redskins last week, even though everything pointed to that, what can you trust. Well, you can trust in a sack vs. Buffalo.  Remember Shaun Ellis?  Here is your Shaun Ellis, part 2. Take Hali over Stylez White for those of you I said take White. And if you can start both White and Hali, increase your chances of success. I do like David Bowens vs. Pittsburgh better than White this week though. And the Trevor Scott matchup vs. Washington is a little better than White in my book too, but make sure Scott is still an LB next week. As a DE, I like White better.

Question
Hey monk thank for the great pick up in shaun ellis helped me alot.. now do i keep him this week or go for stylez? or another DE u reccomended?

Answer
There were 2 sacks on TB week 13 and Peppers got on of them. Ellis is on a good roll and I feel OK about him. Not great because Freeman's not the easiest guy to sack, but do able. Let's put it this way, I don't feel that much more amazing about Stylez White. He just has an incredibly sweet matchup. Advantage goes to Ellis for more tackles though.

QUESTION
also at DB i am thinking of dropping roman harper shud i do so for bullit or another guy out there such as george wilson or dashon goldson? thanks so much

ANSWER
I'm not loving the KC matchup vs. Wilson, but I do love me some George Wilson. But not near as much as Bullit this week. Between his 11 solos last week and his extremely sweet matchup this week, I would start Bullit over Harper.

Atlanta (who Harper faces) has not been friendly to strong safeties and I'm afraid you'll see a 4 tackle performance. Free Safety a little more so, but not really SS when I look back at poor games, including Tanard Jackson's stinker when he faced the Falcons.

I may go down with the ship if I'm wrong, but Bullit is above Bryan Scott this week on my depth chart. And definitely above Harper.

hey monk! i love your blog!! good call on the trevor scott over jared allen last week! 8 points was better than nothing! plus it got me into the playoffs! my question for you this week is what are your top 5 DL? ive got allen but the gameplanning to stop him is killing me, i need a strong matchup this week! i was leaning towards a schobel pickup. thanx a ton!

the monkster! thanks for all your advice! i was wondering what you thought of tamba hali for a starting lb/de this week? i have jared allen and aaron schobel currently. would it be a wise pick up and start over these two?????

Tackle= 1
Assist= .5
Sack,INT, FF = 4
PD= 1.5
20 Return yds = 1 point

For cornerback i have josh wilson right now.
For safety i have Daniel Manning or Melvin Bullit

For DT i have Tony Brown against the Rams

For DE i have Tamba Hali after his big week

And for my 4 linebacker spots i have DAvid Hawthorne, James Laurinaitis, Justin Durant, and for the last spot i can use any position, so quincy black or the safety not chosen above.

Out of all the people listed above which would you recommend going to the waiver wire with. Stylez is a free agent as well as many other starters.

This is the best IDP site I found on the net, thanks a lot for the advices. Depending of tonight game, I'll be siting in 1st or 2nd rank of my dynasty league tomorrow morning. I have a tough game next week (week 14) so I'll appreciate your advice. Please pick two for my DL spot between: T. Cole, Scott (Oak), Orakpo or Starks

And 2 more for my DB:
Scott (Buf), Y. Bell, Pollard, Wilson or Goldson

Thanks in advance

Hey Monk, I wanted to thank you for all the help this year, I made the 4th seed in my 20 team IDP league!! 2 of the 3 teams above me are easily beatable, one has a crap team and just has AP...

Okay so my league we start 1DB,1LB,1DL. I own Hawthrone at LB Dumervil at DL and Bryan Scott at DB. Im definitely dropping Scott to get Bullit. Should I hang onto Hawthorne versus Houston, or should I look to some guys like MLB Dhani Jones(CIN) @ MIN, OLB David Thornton(TEN) vs. STL. Thornton had 8 solos and 5 assists versus IND sunday with Addai running all over and Steven Jackson is the only light in the StL offense and he has the 2nd most yards from scrimmage of any running back. I like Black and his recent production but i'm not sold on the fact that Rex Ryan will run and he wont recognize how awful the coverage has been in the secondary for TB and throw more than they run. Also Dansby, Witherspoon, Foote and Greenway are available. Id like to get your opinion to wether any of these options are better than Hawthorne this week for a must win week 1 of the playoffs. thanks a heap

QUESTION:

ANSWER
Buffalo vs. KC. Yes, I like that. Schobel is no slouch. He's just had an off year. KC is a SWEET matchup. I have no problem with this move. Sometimes it's really hard to ignore the "big name". I did that last week when I couldn't bring myself to start Mayo over Lofton even though the matchup was much better. Guess what, I lost by 6 points this week and guess what, May had 9 more points than Lofton in my league. Ouch, I hate those losses when I wimp out on pulling the trigger. It didn't help that I didn't listen to some of you about Hawthorne having a weak matchup. Now we know that Hawthorne is not "matchup proof". This didn't knock me out of the playoffs though, I'm already clinched.

Answer
As I told someone else, I like the Schobel matchup vs KC. It's always very hard to pull the trigger of starting anyone over J. Allen, but Hali did go off last week, is putting up nice tackle numbers for number of weeks and now faces Buffalo. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Yes, I really like this play and I'll add Hali as a great pickup in my DE category. Good call! And yes, I'd go Schobel and Hali over Allen. They're playing well and have great matchups!

ANSWER
No, no, stay with T. Hali. I'm sorry I missed this. I love this matchup. (wife is out of town on conference, so I'm alone with all 3 kids since Sunday afternoon so concentration on box scores wasn't all it could be Sunday night. haha)

And I really like the idea of you starting Bullit at saftey and us Q. Black at your flex. I like the GB matchup for Manning, but his inconsistency scares me too much. It's very close though because I do love the matchup, but the way the Bears are playing, I feel like GB could get ahead in this one and not have to pass as much. Black vs. NYJ feels more dependable and solid. I think the NYJ game vs. TB will be more competitive and evenly matched, thus more run game. Plus Black could throw in a sack and he's the one on the "hot streak". It is very close though. Compare the 2 box scores to help make your decision. http://www.nfl.com/players/quincyblack/gamelogs?id=BLA144191 & http://www.nfl.com/players/daniealmanning/gamelogs?id=MAN468179 (click the small "more" link in the corner of the box score to see the full season stats)

Also, everyone keeps talking about Josh Wilson, but I haven't seen beans out of this guy. I can name a HUGE number of DBs I'd rather have including both Goodman (Den) vs. Manning this week and on the other side J. Powers (IND) because Orton will be forced to throw to stay in this game. There are many, many more. How about Terrell Brown, corner for SF vs. Arizona week 14? Check him out! http://www.nfl.com/players/tarellbrown/profile?id=BRO695589

QUESTION
Depending of tonight game, I'll be siting in 1st or 2nd rank of my dynasty league tomorrow morning. I have a tough game next week (week 14) so I'll appreciate your advice. Please pick two for my DL spot between: T. Cole, Scott (Oak), Orakpo or Starks

Answer
Starks was there because of VERY sweet matchup. I really like this OAK/WAS matchup. Very even, sorta like the DET/CLE game was and tons of potential for fantasy fireworks, even when 2 crappy teams play. (of course one came EXTREMELY close to beating the Saints and the other just beat the Steelers. Weird!) So I really like Trevor Scott as an LB or DE. Let's just watch closely and make sure he's not shuffled again. I wouldn't trust Orakpo, the Steelers barely got to the Raiders. So Cole & Scott at this point.

QUESTION
And 2 more for my DB:
Scott (Buf), Y. Bell, Pollard, Wilson or Goldson

Answer
LOVE the Pollard matchup so that's #1 and that Goldson vs. Arizona looks tempting on paper and Goldson is a solid player, but he only had 3 tackles in the last meeting vs. Arizona and the Cards don't go deep like they used to. So I can't recommend Goldson. I'm having a real hard time with Scott or Wilson vs. KC. If Scott is an LB, I like it more for him. It's hard to get a read on this game though. Let's put it this way. Dawkins is CRAZY good and only had 3 tackles in that matchup vs. KC week 13. He did have a bum ankle though so Renaldo Hill relieved him some and got 2 tackles, an INT and 3 pass deflections. So the possibility of a INT is always there facing KC, but with KC losing by more than 40 points vs. Denver and the ball was thrown 42 times with only 16 of those being completions (not counting the 2 completions to the other team), I don't feel good about the FF stats of Wilson facing KC. Don't get me wrong, I think 4-6 tackles are possible for him, but I think Y. Bell is a safer bet.

So I would go Pollard & Y. Bell and feel good about that. (and you know I'm lovin me the M. Bullit matchup more than Bell right!) It's a little close though so I think you'll be fine with Bell.

Good Luck!

@ IDP IMO

Comment
Dont overlook SS Kevin Ellison against the Cowboys this week.

Answer
I hear you on that, but it is playoff time and you have to be careful. Sure he had 7 solos last week vs. Cle, but he had zero tackles the week before that and 1 the week before that and 3 tackles the week before that. The Cowboys are an above average matchup for SS, but I would not trust Ellison in the playoffs. His production is extremely hit or miss. I just can't recommend unpredictable guys with mediocre matchups. Doesn't mean he can't have a HUGE game vs. Dallas, but it's too much of a roll of the dice for my taste.

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk,

Right now I'm playing Pollard and Laurinaitis. Is there anyone on your list that you would play instead of one of these guys?

Thanks for your help. And i'm happy to donate, especially for Jayci. I will keep her in my prayers.

QUESTION:

Also Dansby, Witherspoon, Foote and Greenway are available. Id like to get your opinion to wether any of these options are better than Hawthorne this week for a must win week 1 of the playoffs. thanks a heap

Answer:
Bullit wreaks of potential and I did the same thing on my own team. Very hard to do over Bryan Scott, I know, but you have to trust the numbers what Bullit has been doing. The math says there's an 80% chance he'll succeed at getting at least 7 solos. That's better than my top guys have been doing. Pray for no injury for the guy to blow our playoff hopes.

As far as Hawthorne, I think every guy and matchup you mentioned will get exactly what Hawthorne will get if he has another bad game. I like your thought on Thornton, but INDY has been the #1 team matchups vs. LBs over the last 4 weeks. So that's why you saw that production. I apologize for not recommending him. He's just a big inconsistent my match came out to 6 solos 3 assists when I thought about it so I held back on the recommendation due to his inconsistency and you never know when it is him or Bullock. Houston has changed the way they run with Chris Brown over the last couple games and Hawthorne, in comparison to everyone else you listed above, should be fine. Not super, but he does have that potential. And let's not forget that Houston is still one of the easier teams to sack and he does have 4 sacks. That's 5 points per sack in my league. Would I start him over DJ Williams vs. IND, Laurinitis vs. TEN or even Mayo vs. CAR, probably not. I do have to think about him or Lofton now though. Lofton has not been setting it on fire lately and he faces NO this week. Hawthorne vs. Houston is probably a 6 or more tackl game, but the potential for "the extras" he brings to the table are what makes him exciting. This should be a winnable game for Houston and they haven't any "easy" (or easier) games for quite a while. Easier games mean they can get the run game going. Let's not forget it's home game for Houston. The bottom line of the SF, Seattle game week 13 is SF did not have the ball very much. Gore only had 9 rushing attempts. So do that math on that ratio. 9 rushing attempts and Hawthorne had 4 tackles and 1 assist. Let's triple that number for fun and say it stayed the same ratio. If SF had 27 rushing attempts, Hawthorne would have had 12 tackles and 3 assists. Does that sound more like his usual self? Houston rushed the ball 18 times vs. Jacksonville. If we use that same "Hawthorne ratio", he'd have 8 solos and 2 assists vs. Houston. As a reminder of what Hawthorne can do, we'll go back to another "below average matchup". Detroit, week 9. They ran the ball 21 times in that game. Hawthorne had 8 solos, 1 assist, 3pds and 2INTs. He has a real shot at a sack in this game vs. Houston. And that is the reason I'm going to have a hard time deciding between Lofton vs. NO or Hawthorne vs. Houston week 14. Seems easier on paper, but not when you take in account Hawthorne's potential. And that's why I have a much easier time recommending Hawthorne to you over any of those other guys you mentioned.

1. 10.50
2. 4.45
3. 0.00
4 0.00
5. 9.50
6. 6.65
8. 6.40
9. 19.00
10. 8.50
11 0.00
12. 16.50
13. 4.90

He missed weeks 3 and 4 with a high ankle sprain and missed week 11 with a concussion. He is up against Houston, a db friendly team..

Looks like i am going to go with Bullit over DManning even though Yahoo projects Dmanning to almost double him in points. As for Qunicy Black, he is getting the start - I now have 4 playmaking linebackers.

urbansherpa said...

Also the thing about Josh Wilson and Danieal Manning is they are both active in the kick return game. Which is just bonus points.

20 yards = 1 point.

Answer:
I wondered about that. That is a shame. If you need an FS, I'm really liking Landry from the Redskins lately. And the way Oakland is throwing it around now with the new QB, I like him even more. He's a big hitter and he's all over the field. If you just need a Defensive Back in general, my love for Bullit this week cannot be hidden. Can you get him? Or can you get DeCloud vs. NO for week 14?

ANSWER
I see what you mean, but it's so hard to depend on a guy returning INTs for Touchdowns, but he did do it twice. I always take out flukes like that when figuring out the numbers and when I do that, he has very average, if not worrisome #'s. Personally, I wouldn't sleep well at night with him on my team. But if the rest of your team is solid and this is your "swing for the fences guy" I can see it. Why not, go for it. I don't have to play CBs in my league so i'll admit I'm a safety kind of guy. Good matchup, so I see your point.

Question
Looks like i am going to go with Bullit over DManning even though Yahoo projects Dmanning to almost double him in points. As for Qunicy Black, he is getting the start - I now have 4 playmaking linebackers.

Answer
Definitely don't trust yahoo projections. Ignore them at all costs. And absolutely start Bullit. He gives you a better chance than Manning. I don't get the "AH HA" moments often, but I got it with Hawthorne this year the first time I recommended him. I got it with Pollard this year vs. Indy and he went off, I got it with S. Ellis last week vs. Buf and now I have it with Bullit. It will be my first wrong if I bomb. And it will knock my own team out of the playoffs too. So Yes, I am standing out on the limb and saying trust me to start Bullit over Manning. If the limb breaks, I'll see you at the bottom. ;^)

Answer
I can't look at every individual matchup right now. To tell the truth, I've been answering peoples question for 2 and half hours and I must get back to my "daytime job" work. So here's a list of what to look for:
LBs: vs. IND, MIA, CIN, ARI, NE, NYJ, TEN, CAR

Safties: vs. CAR, DEN, SEA, NO, ATL, ARI, GB

CBs: vs. NO, SEA, ARI, HOU

DLs: vs. NE, NYJ, BUF, PIT, HOU

Good players vs. Good matchups = Good Numbers

I may have missed some, but that gives you a good start for your research.

QUESTION
Which 2 DB's should I start this week:

Marshall

Answer
Cox matchup vs. Miami just not jump off the page to me. DeCoud, has a sweet matchup vs. NO and he is a safety so a few more opportunities are available to him over Cox, who's a CB.

I'm assumming you mean Michael Griffn and not Cedric Griffin. No on both. Bad matchups and not playing well.

And Marshall is a definite to me. So now it comes down to great matchup vs. good player.

So it's DeCoud and Marshall for you.

Thanks

Monk,
Great info as always.
I know you mentioned you would start Bullitt over Bryan Scott...what about Tyvon Branch?
Also, would you pick up and start Hali over Andre Carter this upcoming week?
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Great legwork Monk, very impressive oh

Riddle me this oh Guru of the IDP gridiron. Which 3 LBs would you play this weekend in a standard scoring league?

Beason vs NE
Hawthorne vs Hou
Posluszny vs KC
Laurinaitis vs Tenn
Lofton vs NO

Bonus question for a faithful reader, pick 2 DBs:

Bell vs Jax
Manning vs GB
Pollard vs Seat
Bullit vs Den (I know you are pitching a tent on this matchup, but I may need to hear it one more time before I put him in the lineup.

Cheers mate, great job.

Didn't D manning lose his job at FS? This article says he did. And I think he only got 1 tackle last week.

Hello Monk,
I love reading this blog, it's probably the first thing I check after the Sunday night game. I've learned a lot about how to pick guys and anticipating matchups.

What are your thoughts if any about picking up guys from the same team? I've seen some people pair up DBs (Bell+Wilson) from Miami and leave them for the rest of the year. I ask this because I have 3 Buffalo Bills on my lineup (Poz, Scott, Schobel) and I think maybe its weird and maybe I'm better off spreading my picks around the league. Thanks!

Monk, tough one (I think) for you:
One of these 3 for this week:
Tyvon Branch
Melvin Bullitt
Erik Coleman (assuming he plays)
Thanks, love the insight

Thanks for the advice Monk. I lost Weddle, now OJ Atogwe. Do I play Bullitt v. DEN or B. Pollard v. SEA this week?

@ Budguy

QUESTION
First of all wow this is a great site Monk and I appreciate the work and replies you give. I wish I found this site sooner but im in the playoffs and have a tough matchup and I hope Defense can bridge the gap for me. Who do I start this week (wk14) this is a keeper league so there is alot.

Answer: Thank you!

QUESTION
DB
Weddle( is he healthy is he gonna play)
Manning (he returns kicks we get 1pt per 10 but he now only plays the nickel)
Melvin Bullitt
Bernard Pollard
antoine Bethea

ANSWER
1 point per 10 yards is impressive though and Green Bay should be scoring on them a lot. Without hesitation, I easily say Pollard and Bullitt, But maybe Manning over Bullitt. Manning can get you 10 points with just 100 return yards? Let's say Manning gets 50 return yards and 2 tackles. Very similar to what happened vs. Minnesota. Nope, Bullitt & Pollard will do better than that. Those guys are my recommendation.

QUESTION
DL
Tamba Hali (he is listed on my CBS as a LB trying to get it changed who knows what will happen)

David Bowens (Thurs game and he is hurt and listed a questionable)
Shaun Ellis
Mario Williams

ANSWER
The news to day is Cleveland DL Bowens (knee) is active and has been listed as probable for the team's Week 14 game against the Steelers
It's getting back into Mario Williams time again isn't it. He tends to finish strong. The guys a beast and facing Seattle. Why not. He is Mario Williams and got a sack last week vs. Jackonsville. Ellis is fine too, but the TB QB (his name escapes me right now) is fairly mobile and Ellis has more competition for sacks on his team than Williams does. I'm feeling Mario this week.

QUESTION
LB
Barrett Rudd
Ray Lewis
jamar Williams
Quincy Black
Tamba Hali(if he doesnt get switched from LB to a DL)

ANSWER
Briggs is back so Jamar Williams will have to become IDP gold some other day. I love the Ruud matchup, but I have to say, the Black/Lewis call is tough. Baltimore vs. Detroit is nasty on paper. But it's hard to start 2 of the same team LBs. I think you go Ray Lewis. He could cause some fumbles or raise some havack beside just solos in that Detroit game.

Pick 2: Tanard Jackson, Bernard Pollard, Tyvon Branch. Or Decoud from waivers

Answer
Pollard and Branch

@ Anonymous

QUESTION:
I know you mentioned you would start Bullitt over Bryan Scott...what about Tyvon Branch?
Also, would you pick up and start Hali over Andre Carter this upcoming week?

Answer
Maybe, no & yes. haha Can ANYBODY tell me if Scott is starting at LB vs. KC. If he is, I might like him better than Bullit, but if he's a safety, I don't. No, Branch over Bullitt and yes, I'd go Hali as a DE over Carter.

Unknown said...

@Jeff

Do I start Cushing or Hawthorne

Answer Cushing

Question
Laurinitus and Sessions on on waivers...but should I drop one of these to get one?

Answer
Yes, swap both. Get Laurinitus this week vs. TEN. Cushing got 3 solos last week and has Seattle this week. HORRIBLE matchup. Sessions has DEN which is kinda crappy, but so is Hawthorne vs. HOU. Sessions has been absolutely ROCK solid for many, many weeks and still has good matchups coming up. And Laurinitis is outperforming both guys you have lately. If you feel too uncomfortable, then just drop Cushing and get Lauranits, but you need at least 1 stable guy and one homerun hitter every week. Cushings and Hawthorne are homerun hitters, but they can strike out with some of their upcoming matchups.

QUESTION
So I start Bryan Scott or pick up benard pollard off waivers?

I like Pollard more this week, but you know Scott can get the job done espcially if he's an LB, which I still haven't been able to figure out.

QUESTION
Riddle me this oh Guru of the IDP gridiron. Which 3 LBs would you play this weekend in a standard scoring league?

Beason vs NE
Hawthorne vs Hou
Posluszny vs KC
Laurinaitis vs Tenn
Lofton vs NO

ANSWER
The good news about these questions is they are all GREAT!
I would go Posluszny vs KC
Laurinaitis vs Tenn

QUESTION
Bonus question for a faithful reader, pick 2 DBs:

Bell vs Jax
Manning vs GB
Pollard vs Seat
Bullit vs Den (I know you are pitching a tent on this matchup, but I may need to hear it one more time before I put him in the lineup.

ANSWER
You make it easy because Bell is a no and Manning is just a Nickel now (even in "return yards" leagues,I'd bench him)

So the 2 are Pollard and Bullitt.

Please read the above comments for all the convincing all over again. haha The simple summary is DEN is the friendliest SS team in the league, shitty Mike Brown put up his highest solos of the year vs. him last week and now Bullit, who just got 12 solos last week and solid numbers the week before that faces them. I can only play the numbers. If the dude wakes up with a cold, we're screwed, but it's a home game for INDY and unless Indy REALLY blows them out and screws up the reason that DEN is so SS friendly, we'll all be smiling by 4 pm Sunday.

QUESTION
Do you think Karlos Dansby will put up strong numbers this week? Hes facing SF and from what I could gather not a very favorable matchup right? I also got Posluszny and Hawthorne....Should I find a replacement for Dansby?

ANSWER
Not unless it's one of these guys:
Patrick Willis - SF vs ARI
Curtis Lofton - ATL vs NO
D.J. Williams - DEN at IND
Ray Lewis - BAL vs DET
Justin Durant - JAX vs MIA
David Harris - NYJ at TB
Barrett Ruud - TB vs NYJ
Jonathan Vilma - NO at ATL
David Hawthorne - SEA at HOU
James Laurinaitis - STL at TEN
Paul Posluszny - BUF at KC
Clint Session - IND vs DEN
Jon Beason - CAR at NE
Chad Greenway - MIN vs CIN
London Fletcher - WAS at OAK
Jerod Mayo - NE vs CAR

I may have missed some, but those are the guys you should target when thinking about replacing Dansby this week.

QUESTION
Also for DB I have...(Start 3)
Roman Harper NO vs ATL
C. Tillman vs GB
Bryan scott vs KC
A. Winfield vs CIN
and I put in a waiver bid for bullit
What other two would you start?

ANSWER
If you get Bullit, I think all know my man crush on him this week, Bryan Scott is definitely your other and then Roman Harper. If you don't get Bullit. It's Tillman because here's the lastest statement on Winfield:
"Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings CB Antoine Winfield (foot) will likely miss the team’s Week 14 game, although head coach Brad Childress said Winfield is closer to a return. 'I think it was close last week,' Childress said. 'How about closer? '

QUESTION
who do i start lofton or hali?

Answer
Lofton

Unknown said...

@Will

12-1 is incredibly impressive Will!

QUESION

D-Hawthorne
D-Poz
D-Mayo
D-Quincy Black
DB-Bullit
DB- Bryan Scott

Bench- For right now,……………………Pollard, Whitherspoon

Would you change this?

ANSWER
Nope, I couldn't change that either. You'll just drive yourself crazy if you do. You've got the lineup in there that has the best chance. That's all you can do.

I F around in mine swapping out Bullit for Scott then Mayo for Hawthorne and I drive myself nuts. Sometimes I wish I didn't have a bench. haha

QUESTION
Also having a tough time with my WR it’s a PPR league, I can play 3-Wayne, R. Moss, Steve Smith (nyg) or DeSean Jackson?

ANSWER
Wow, tough call with Wayne vs. DEN, Moss is definite vs. CAR, loving S. Smith in PPR vs. PHI on Sunday night, but how do you leave out Jackson vs. that crappy NYG. I though Jackson got a concussion in his last game vs. ATL? You just can't EVER bench Reggie Wayne. If you got return yards, Jackson would be a no brainer. Since it's between Smith & Jackson, the logic I use is McNabb's O throws more than any other O in the whole league. NYG has one of the worst secondaries. And DJax has the ability to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. So I would go Wayne, Moss, & DJax. If you get knocked out, at least you went with all your guns blazing!

@Pat
QUESTION
I am not sure who to start this week. I can play 2 DEs, 2 LBs, 2 CBs, and 2 Safetys. I am pretty stacked with talent and not sure who to go with, especially with playoffs starting this week. I can use your advise. At DE Peppers, Schobel, Dumervil, and Trent Cole?
ANSWER
Dumervil is an LB stud, but Manning is hard to sack. That's tough. Cole will get to the other Manning so he's the sure thing here. Peppers & Schobel have the good matchups, but I don't fully trust Peppers yet so I'd go Aaron Schobel at KC. KC is so easy to sack and he's a good player. So Cole and Schobel.

QUESTION
At LBs Lofton, Beason, and Hawthorne?
ANSWER
Lofton & Beason

QUESTION
At CBs I have Rolle, Branch, T Jackson, and Powers?
ANSWER
Branch & Roll (branch is a safety, not a corner though. If Branch was an accident here, it's Powers & Rolle

At safeties Roman Harper, Pollard, and Bryan Scott

ANSWER
Pollard & Scott (Harper is good, but not as good as he was in the beginning of the season)

QUESTION
What are your thoughts if any about picking up guys from the same team? I've seen some people pair up DBs (Bell+Wilson) from Miami and leave them for the rest of the year. I ask this because I have 3 Buffalo Bills on my lineup (Poz, Scott, Schobel) and I think maybe its weird and maybe I'm better off spreading my picks around the league. Thanks!

ANSWER
Unfortunately, in your case you are correct. Two DBs are fine because it's still the same matchup vs. a DB friendly team, but in your case, it could be DL friendly team, but it means their passing alot and the LBs get left out of the matchup. For instance, I'd be fine with having Bullit & Bethea from the Colts because the team their facing DEN is a Safety friendly team, but not an LB friendly team. So having R. Mathis, G. Brackett and Bethea would generally lead to someone having low numbers that week. You case got unique because sometimes Scott is a safety and sometimes he's besides Poz. In a run heavy game, the LBs do well but Schobel has very few sack opportunities. There's no reason to over think it too much because all your players are good and "get theirs", but in certain matchups, one of your guys will get left out.

You are right. I have Coleman and Bullit dead EVEN this week. I think NO handles ATL this week with their run game though and I like the Bullitt matchup more. Flip a coin and check the injury report. Your good either way you go.

A couple guys on the waiver

Bn.N.Barnett

I was considering starting Richard Marshall against New England over Bryan Scott. Also, Melvin Bullitt is avail. I think Nick Barnett is a go now and I will put him in place of Q.Black.

thanks, awesome blog

@ GXJ

I wouldn't start Marshall over Scott. I would start Barnett over Q. Black. As far as picking up Bullit over Scott. It's so close. As I've told people. If Scott is still a linebacker, I like him more, but if he's a safety, I like Bullit a little more. No one's depth chart is up-to-date and it's hard to tell. NFL.com is so confused about Scott it's got him listed as both the starting WLB and starting FS. haha He's an awesome IDP guy either way. Bullit is just a 1 week only special and that's this week.
